Hijazz Project is a gathering place of the most famous musicians in Turkey. Each one individually has their own bands and personal projects, play in different festivals, working in different productions. Hijazz Project for them, is a way to surrender their togetherness in this music of synthesis they make hand in hand, without any ego, matching to the idea of Mevlana and Sufism. They play from Hamamizade Ismail Dede Efendi to W.A.Mozart… from Hasselman to Nayi Osman Dede.. from J.S.Bach to Tamburi Cemil Bey.. mixed with the jazzy mood, powered by Budapest Symphonical Orchestra conducted by Alparslan Ertungaalp. HiJazz Project’s first concert was supported by Turkiye Is Bankasi in 2003. in 2007 the band is supported by Arif Mardin (R.I.P), who had great effort for Hijazz Project to perform in the Istanbul Jazz Festival. He made it but passed away on the concert day. So we dedicate our 2007 Istanbul Jazz Festival performance to his loving memory. He was the only music producer in the world who made the world a better place.

Nach Bionic Clarkes Album “Prettiest Girl” (2015) legt Eleven Seven Records nun mit “Role Model” nach. Und, um es gleich vorweg zu nehmen: das Album knüpft nahtlos an den Vorgänger an – übertrifft ihn sogar ein klein wenig. Bionic Clarke hatten viele nicht bzw nicht mehr auf dem Schirm, nachdem er in den 80ern ganz kurz in Erscheinung getreten war. Danke also an das Team von Eleven Seven Records für das Wiederbeleben. Der Mann hat eine wirklich zauberhafte Stimme, die gelegentlich an Horace Andy erinnert, aber auf jeden Fall eigenständig ist. Davon kann man sich nun auf insgesamt sechs Tracks und ebenso vielen Dubversions erneut überzeugen. Die Veröffentlichung ist als Showcasealbum angelegt, der jeweilige Dub folgt also dem vorangegangenen Original.
Das musikalische Team um Felix Wolter, Marco Baresi und den Senior Allstars-Gitarristen Markus Dassmann hat sich wieder mächtig ins Zeug gelegt und satte Riddims gebaut, auf denen Bionic Clarke ein Leichtes hat, sein Können zu zeigen. Geerdet, vorantrabend und warm würde ich als Adjektive heranziehen, um die Musik des Albums zu beschreiben.
Bionic Clarke hat neben seiner schönen Stimme vor allem ein Händchen für eingängige Melodien und tiefe Inhalte vorzuweisen. Das geht gleich mit dem Opener und Titeltrack “Role Model” los, setzt sich in der tollen Kombination mit Lone Ranger bei “Reggaetrain” fort und endet mit “Eyes Nu Fi Shut”, um nur mal drei Titel zu nennen. Gerade “Eyes Nu Fi Shut” legt eine Hookline vor, die einem sofort den Ohrwurm in die Hörschnecke zaubert. Für Lennart Tacke, der für Eleven Seven Records auf Jamaika den Gesangsaufnahmen beiwohnt und für die Qualität sorgt, müssen es schon fast magische Momente im Studio gewesen sein, die Entstehung der Lieder unmittelbar zu erleben. Nicht unerwähnt bleiben darf Camille SoulRebel Marks, von der wieder einmal die feinen Backingvocals stammen.
Und dann wären da ja noch die sechs Dubversionen. Hier hat Dubmastermind Felix Wolter als Dubvisionist wieder ganze Arbeit geleistet! Ganz subjektiv habe ich sogar das Gefühl, dass er sich hier eine Spur mehr gewagt hat, als beim Vorgängeralbum. Eine Klasse für sich!

Biography
New flamenco guitarist Armik displayed an interest in and passion for music while still a young child. When he was just seven years old, he pawned his watch for a classical guitar, which he hid and practiced on in the basement. Formal music lessons followed and Armik completed the Rudolph Solphege program in two years; at 12, he was a professional recording artist. While his early career focused mostly on jazz, Armik discovered the beauty and passion of flamenco while visiting and studying in Spain during the ’70s. He moved to Los Angeles to pursue this new direction, playing with other artists live and in the studio.
Rain Dancer By 1994 he released his solo debut album, Rain Dancer, a critical and commercial success that he followed with 1995’s Gypsy Flame. At this point, Armik’s reputation as a performer and student of flamenco was such that expert Spanish luthier Pedro Maldonado created an instrument for him, the Rubia; Armik’s 1996 album was recorded with and named after it. The following year saw the release of Malaga, and his fifth album, Isla del Sol, appeared in 1999, followed by Rosas del Amor in the spring of 2001. Released in 2002, Lost in Paradise showed him making a sensual and elegant album that offered a different take on his traditional flamenco.
Romantic Dreams His releases have consistently reached Top Ten positions on Billboard’s charts of top-selling new age music, and during the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, two tracks from Armik’s recordings were played during the floor exercises to accompany gymnast Daniela Sofronie of Romania. That year, Armik released his first album on his own Bolero imprint, Romantic Dreams. Releases such as Mar de Sueños and the compilation Desires: The Romantic Collection followed, and over the coming decade his output increased dramatically with a new album arriving nearly every year. In addition to more straightforward flamenco releases like 2005’s Cafe Romantico and 2012’s Casa de Amor, Armik issued several themed records like A Day in Brazil (2008) and Christmas Wishes (2006). A 2014 Greatest Hits collection covered various highlights from the first ten years on Bolero Records, and in 2015 he added a second volume to his popular Romantic Spanish Guitar series.

Country and Irish star Nathan Carter was originally born in Liverpool in 1990 to Irish parents, but at age 18 decided to make the move to his parents’ home country. With an upbringing filled with music — at age four he could play the accordion and at age ten won the All Ireland Title for Traditional Singing — Carter would naturally gravitate toward the industry. His debut album, Starting Out, appeared in 2007, with the album’s mix of country and Celtic influences helping revive the Country and Irish genre in Ireland and England. Becoming a firm favorite in Ireland, Carter released his sophomore album, The Way That You Love Me, in 2010 with his third, Time of My Life, arriving the following year. In 2012, with the release of his fourth album, Wagon Wheel, Carter’s career really took off. Peaking at number six on the Irish album charts, the album cemented his position as the leader of the new Country and Irish scene. 2013’s Where I Wanna Be reached the top spot of the Irish album chart and two years later, his seventh album, Beautiful Life, also did the same, while reaching the U.K. album chart for the first time. With a U.K. tour booked for that year, Carter continued to perform, wowing crowds in both the U.K. and Ireland. Following this success, he released his eighth studio album, Stayin’ Up All Night, in 2016, again peaking at the top of the Irish album chart; the album also fared well on the U.K. albums chart, and entered the Top 40. ~ Rich Wilson.

"Amsterdam meets New Tango" is the brilliant collaboration between Buenos Aires Tango Jazz pianist/composer Pablo Ziegler and the Amsterdam-based Metropole Orkest. Pablo Ziegler is known as much for his many years as pianist, music director and collaborator with the legendary Tango bandoneonist Astor Piazzolla as for his own groundbreaking, Tango genre-expanding compositions.
On this recording, Pablo Ziegler and his trio featuring guitarist Quique Sinesi and bandoneonst Walter Castro are augmented by the Uruguyan percussionist Quintino Cinalli.
In a unique partnership, Pablo Ziegler and his group are performing here with the Metropole Orkest, conducted by Jules Buckley, in new arrangements of several compositions of Mr Ziegler’s concert repertoire specifically written for the Orchestra.

Exhilarated by the simple joys of the Jonathan Demme movie Storefront Hitchcock, the celebrated Mr. H demonstrates more of the straightforward, idiosyncratic charm and scrumptious tunes that made his film such a surprise. And what a fine piece of work! Without altering his established formula, it’s clear the one-time Soft Boys leader has hit on a good vein. No need for lush production, even if it worked well on some of his earlier ’90s albums such as Perspex Island. Jewels just collects all his strengths. On the folk-rock numbers such as the strident "Mexican God," Hitchcock relies on a six-string acoustic and some light percussion. For the more lithe pop of "Sally Was a Legend," it’s all restrained electric guitar and nimble, unobtrusive bass and drums to keep it smooth. A darker, scratchier, more foreboding ’60s rock arrives on the low-down stomp of "Antwoman," or the more zippy, neo-Stones rockers "Elizabeth Jade" and "Viva! Sea-Tac." Lastly, a new, studio version of Storefront Hitchcock’s solo-unplugged "I Don’t Remember Guilford" is fleshed out with a somber piano, lugubrious violin, and old-West harmonica to make the tune sparkle even more. He has plenty of help, too. While fans are celebrating the return of original Soft Boy Kimberley Rew on two tracks for the first time in 18 years, Hitchcock also commandeered a squadron of reverent co-conspirators in other cities to make a good LP into a first-rate one. Three-quarters of the Young Fresh Fellows along with R.E.M.’s Peter Buck are unmistakable on a trio of Seattle-recorded tracks, especially "Elizabeth Jade." Juha Kujanpää (b.1974) is a Finnish composer and musician who operates masterfully in the no-man’s land between folk music, jazz and rock.
Kujanpää’s most recent works include his solo albums “Tales and Travels” (Kivenpyörittäjä), 2013 and “Goldwing” (Kultasiipi) 2015. “Tales and Travels” was selected as one of the best albums of 2013 by the leading Finnish newspaper, Helsingin Sanomat. The band, Juha Kujanpää Ensemble, was also nominated as the Band of the Year of Kaustinen Folk Music Festival 2014.
Kujanpää’s music has been released lately also on folk music influenced albums Kirjava lintu: “Unilintu” (2012), Osiris-trio: “Synty” (2011) and Karuna: “Hyvää matkaa/Bon Voyage” (2010). His vocal music composed to poems of Finnish poets has been released on “Kirjava lintu” (2007) (poetry by e.g. Helvi Hämäläinen, Hannele Huovi, Lauri Pohjanpää) and Kentauri: “Että rauha pysyisi” (2004) (poetry by Pentti Saarikoski).
Kujanpää’s works for theatre over the last few years include “An Operetta for Hope / Toivon operetti” (Rovaniemi Theatre 2011, Radio Theatre/YLE 2010, HTT 2008), “Zukkapaitupumbula” (Dance performance for babies, Loiske Ensemble 2012), “Legend of Birth”, (Osiris Theatre 2008-10), “Tippa / Last Call”, monologue of Juha Hippi 2011) and “Kuolemansyntejä, paratiisiuutisia” (Valkeakoski City Theatre 2010).
Kujanpää is working as a musician in bands Karuna, Captain Cougar, Ikiranka, Ville Ojanen Band, children music band FlipFlop and improvisation theatre group Häpeämättömät. He has performed as a guest musician in albums by e.g. Dave Lindholm, Nikolai Blad, Riku Keskinen, Dile Kolanen and Joakim Berghäll.

Vancouver singer-songwriter Jesse Waldman’s debut album, Mansion Full of Ghosts, is tugging on heartstrings this Spring. With four years of labor stacked behind it, Mansion Full of Ghosts holds up a microscope to the importance of one’s roots, one’s family, and what one can accomplish when aspirations are chased.

A veteran performer who has toured the western U.S, the U.K, and played at Canada’s chief festivals—namely Vancouver’s Folk and International Jazz Fests—Waldman channels all he holds dear into his 16-track album, each song irreversibly and unmistakably original. Featuring a blend of atmospheric acoustics, downy vocals, and gifted West Coast musicians as the instrumental backbone, Mansion Full of Ghosts lures listeners in immediately with its strong sense of setting in its opening track, “Hope in Shadows”. In it, Waldman paints downtown Vancouver with a gritty realism, his lyrics leaning towards the evocative in a way that entirely immerses the audience in the story of a man who yearns to make it back into the “light” after living years in metaphorical darkness.

The fifteenth track, “Rest of My Days”, is where Waldman’s deep-seated roots come out to play: coupled with a music video comprised of old home videos spanning generations of Waldman’s family, Waldman spins a lullaby-esque tale of family, his Northern roots, and the beauty of both.

Infused with a hopeful tinge, Mansion Full of Ghosts is a wholesome, masterfully written debut that will appeal to fans both old and new.
