Recorded in January of 1977 at Montreal’s legendary Rising Sun Celebrity Jazz Club, the record features some of Muddy’s greatest bandmates, including Luther “Guitar Junior” Johnson and “Steady Rollin’” Bob Margolin on guitar, Jerry Portnoy on harmonica, Pinetop Perkins on piano, along with Calvin Jones on bass and Willie Smith on drums. This rare recording captures the raw and electric intensity of the small club with Muddy’s commanding voice front and centre.

Beth Hart is on fire. Fire On The Floor is sure to build on her breakneck momentum. As the singer explains, this latest record gave her an emotional release following the bitter-sweet sessions for Better Than Home. If there’s a theme that ties these twelve songs together, it’s a sense of escapism following the hardest of times. “We were still in the mixing stages for that album and I knew I had to make another record. Making Better Than Home was so painful, because one of the producers, Michael Stevens, was dying of cancer. It was a very emotional record to write and to make. I wanted the songs for Fire On The Floor to get born real quick.”

These twelve new songs run the gamut of genre, reflecting Beth’s eclectic teenage influences, which took in everything from gospel, soul and classical to the seismic rock of Soundgarden. “As a writer,” she nods, “I feel really stifled if I’m trying to write in the same style. I just can’t do that. Growing up as a kid, I was raised all over the place stylistically, loving so many different genres.”

These could be terrible recordings of Glazunov's Second and Fourth String Quartets and his Elegy for Strings and they would be terrific recordings of Glazunov's Second and Fourth Quartets and his Elegy for Strings for two reasons. First, there are so few recordings of Glazunov's extremely charming string quartets that pretty much any recording would be terrific; and second, pretty much any performance of Glazunov's deeply human quartets would be ennobled by the magnificence of the music. Fortunately, these performances by the Utrecht String Quartet are not terrible but tremendous. The Utrecht Quartet's understanding of Glazunov's music — of its tender lyricism, its powerful rhythms, its integral forms, and, best of all, its quality of ineffable kindness — is complete and its ability to express its affection and admiration for the music is consummate. While the Second and Fourth Quartets are wonderful works, the Elegy for Strings is that and something more, a profoundly moving but entirely dignified lament for all that is good and honest and wholesome and the Utrecht Quartet treats the work with the love and respect it deserves. Musikproduktion Dabringhaus und Grimm's sound is as real as the breeze through the window.
