The Ian Campbell Folk Group were one of the most respected, influential and best known British folk groups of the 1960’s. Taking their origins from Aberdeen, the band formed in Birmingham in 1958. They signed to Transatlantic Records in 1963 and proceeded to record the content of this collection over the next 6 years. They topped the bill at the Royal Albert Hall, made numerous TV appearances, attended the Newport Folk Festival in 1964 and were prolific live performers throughout Europe.Dave Swarbrick and Dave Pegg who both achieved fame with Fairport Convention, are featured in this collection.

DISC ONE:

This Is the Ian Campbell Folk Group – the band’s debut 18 track album released in 1963.

Across the Hills – the 2nd album featuring 14 tracks released originally in 1964.

DISC TWO:

Coaldust Ballads – a 1965 album released with 17 tracks and on CD for the very first time.

Contemporary Campbells – a 14 track release dating from 1965.

DISC THREE:

New Impressions of The Ian Campbell Folk Group – next in the series was this offering from 1966 featuring 15 tracks.

The Circle Game – the band’s final album for Transatlantic appearing on CD for the first time. It features 14 tracks and was originally released in 1968.

DISC FOUR: BONUS TRACKS

Disc 4 contains all the tracks recorded by the group that don’t appear on the 6 albums listed above. Their singles, Kelly, The Boy From Killane, The Times They Are A Changin’, (which reached 42 in the UK charts), One Eyed Reilly and Guantanamera are included along with their B sides, as are tracks that only appeared on the Transatlantic sampler albums that were released in 1969. Most of these tracks are appearing on CD for the first time.

Γνωστή στους παροικούντες από τη συμμετοχή της, βασικά, στο φωνητικό σχήμα New York Voices(με το οποίο ηχογραφεί εδώ και δεκαετίες), η τραγουδίστρια Lauren Kinhan έχει καινούριο προσωπικό CD υπό τον τίτλο “A Sleepin’ Bee” [Dotted I, 2017], στο οποίο αποτίνει φόρο τιμής στη Nancy Wilson, που εφέτος κλείνει τα 80 χρόνια της. Η Lauren εστιάζει κυρίως στην καριέρα της Wilson στη δεκαετία του ’60, όταν η μεγάλη τραγουδίστρια της jazzσυνεργαζόταν με το κουιντέτο του πιανίστα George Shearing (δες το άλμπουμ “The Swingin’s Mutual!” στην Capitol από το 1961), όπως και με το κουιντέτο του άλτο σαξοφωνίστα Cannonball Adderley (δες το LP “Nancy Wilson/ Cannonball Adderley” επίσης στην Capitol από την ίδια χρονιά).

Έτσι, από το δεύτερο άλμπουμ (η Kinhan) διαλέγει να πει τα “Save your love for me”, “Never will I marry”, “The old country”, “Happy talk” και “A sleepin’ bee”, ενώ από το πρώτο τα “Born to be blue” και “Let’s live again”, συμπληρώνοντας με το “Guess who I saw today” (που είχε πει η Wilson στο “The Nancy Wilson Show!” του 1965), το “(You don’t know) How glad I am” (από το “How Glad I am” του 1964) και το κλασικό “You don’t know what love is” (που είχε πει σε 45άρι η Wilson το ’63).

H ενορχήστρωση (πιάνο, μπάσο, ντραμς, τρομπέτα – η τρομπέτα της Ingrid Jensen) είναι φυσικά προσεγμένη, με την Kinhan να κινείται με παροιμιώδη άνεση σ’ αυτά τα κλασικά φωνητικά jazz μονοπάτια, δείχνοντας στόφα πολύ μεγάλης τραγουδίστριας σε κομμάτια όπως το “You don’t know what love is”, που το λέει έξοχα (με τη mezzo φωνή της να ανεβαίνει και να κατεβαίνει, αλλάζοντας συνεχώς χρωματισμούς) ή το “Guess who I saw today”, που και αυτό –όπως και κάθε ένα, εδώ που τα λέμε, απ’ αυτά τα τραγούδια– διακρίνεται για την ίδιαν απέριττη και ουσιαστική προσέγγισή του, όχι μόνον από την ίδια την Kinhan, μα και απ’ όλη την ορχήστρα.

Between June 1999 and May 2000 Ralph America posted several Residents MP3s on their website. Shortly afterwards, these exclusive pieces were collected on a limited edition CD entitled Dot.Com. Klanggalerie are proud to present you an updated version of this album, remastered and with new artwork by Pore Know Graphics. In 2013, a new sub label of Ralph was started, Radio Thoreau, on the official Residents website. Radio Thoreau presented a collection of recent Residents tunes fixed by Charles Bobuck into a more radio friendly form: singles. All material was submitted to iTunes, Amazon, Spotify, and Google Play for an undefined period. Five of these reworkings are collected here, including one which was never released to the public.

he Garden of Earthly Delights is the sixth album by John Zorn’s Simulacrum, here augmented by bassist Trevor Dunn and vocalist Sara Serpa. The album celebrates the 500th year of the death of Hieronymus Bosch, and is named after one of his triptych paintings – a work which depicts the Garden of Eden on one side, the Last Judgement on the other and a scene in the center with animals, humans and weird plants all seemingly living in a sort of mystical Utopia.

Bosch’s penchant for including surreal scenes, over-sized creatures and oddly at ease monsters interacting with naked humans, set in dark or intensely enlightened landscapes, seems to give permission for the music to follow patterns and fantastical rhythmic changes. All of it makes perfect sense in worlds of varying musical journeys: Simulacrum’s music is as fantastical as the pictures. Given John Zorn’s eclectic, diverse and charismatic ideas of what can be garnered under the musical umbrella, it all makes perfect sense.

The Garden of Earthly Delights, issued via Zorn’s Tzadik label, covers any style you can think of almost, and the only thing holding the listener back is the imagination. You don’t have to know it relates to Bosch or that it is loosely based on fantastical beings and possibilities. The music soon speaks for itself. John Zorn is charismatic, hides himself from view and seems to be only accessible by those to whom he gives projects like the Superb Spike Orchestra or this trio. But Zorn is also clever, because that creates a magic around this composer, arranger and musician which is reflected in the music he oversees unleashed under various projects – each with their own identity and musical stamp.

Je me demande si ça ne serait pas son meilleur album tellement il est varié. Déjà , t'as la crème des requins de studio en crédit, c'est produit par Romanelli, Lanaro au son, , y'a les 3 choristes incontournables des 80 ( Fredericks, Jones, Jamison ).C'est un petit bijou de perfection qui démarre symphonique ( Putain ! dans les années 80, on foutait sur pognon sur un album !). Le truc qui frappe d'entrée c'est la variation de la voix de la Belle tout au long du skeud, qui fout toute son âme ! Et ça se termine façon Carmen-like.
