Πέθανε προχθές ένας πολύ σημαντικός μουσικός, κιθαρίστας του ροκ, για τον οποίο δεν πρόκειται να γράψει κανένας στην Ελλάδα. Θα γράψουν (έγραψαν) δυο-τρεις άνθρωποι στο facebook ένα “RIP” κι εκεί θα τελειώσει η ιστορία.

Για τον Phil Miller ο λόγος, που έφυγε από τη ζωή στα 68 χρόνια του, έχοντας καταφέρει πιο πριν να συνδέσει το όνομά του με ΤΗΝ κιθάρα της Σχολής του Canterbury. Αν το Canterbury rock ήταν, είναι και θα παραμείνει η βάση κάθε αισθητικής ατασθαλίας ΜΕ ΥΨΗΛΟ ΝΟΗΜΑ στο χώρο του ροκ, πέραν από εποχές και στυλ, ο Phil Miller ήταν, μαζί με 2-3 άλλους, εκείνος που συνέβαλε στη συγκρότηση και στήριξη του συγκεκριμένου ήχου.

Αυτές είναι οιβασικές μπάντες απότις οποίες πέρασε: Carol Grimes & Delivery, Caravan, Matching Mole, Hatfield and The North, National Health, In Cahoots, Short Wave.

Στη φωτογραφία (άνω) βλέπουμε τον PhilMiller στο Facelift (Σεπτέμβρης 1996), το topπεριοδικό για την Canterbury Scene. Μακάρι να είχα χρόνο να κάτσω να μεταφράσω συνέντευξη κ.λπ.

Να πούμε ακόμη πως ο Phil Miller εικονίζεται στο δεύτερο LP των Matching Mole, το “Little Red Record” [CBS, 1972] να κρατάει το Μικρό Βιβλιαράκι του Μάο. Το γράφω γιατί είναι βασικό και δεν έχει εντοπιστεί (πως το κρατάει εκείνος εννοώ). Με το αυτόματο είναι ο Dave McRae, δίπλα του ο Robert Wyatt και με το φλάμπουρο ο Bill MacCormick.

Το “God song”, που ακολουθεί, σ’ αυτήν ακριβώς την εκτέλεση με τον Robert Wyatt (χωρίς κιθάρα) ήταν κατά τον ίδιο τον Phil Miller το ωραιότερο τραγούδι, που έγραψε ποτέ…

New release from the veteran blues rockers. In 1967, four young musicians from Nottinghamshire, England formed Ten Years After. Alvin Lee, Chick Churchill, Ric Lee and Leo Lyons became one of the most explosive quartets on the world stage and cemented themselves as one of the biggest bands in rock n roll history. The band scored eight Top 40 albums on the UK Albums Chart and twelve multi-million selling albums on the US Billboard 200 between 1967 and 1974. In 2014 founder members Ric Lee and Chick Churchill put Ten Years After back together with a new lineup. This new and exciting lineup features British Bass icon Colin Hodgkinson (Backdoor, Peter Green, Alexis Corner, Spencer Davis, Chris Rea, John Lord) and multi British Blues Award winning guitarist and singer Marcus Bonfanti (Van Morrison, Ginger Baker, Ronnie Wood). This new lineup has been touring extensively since 2013 with over 150 shows under their belt and have received rave reviews from all corners of the world as they continue to produce the high energy of a vintage Ten Years After show 50 years down the line. To tie in with the bands 50th anniversary in 2017, Ten Years After have recorded a studio album of original material A Sting In The Tale due for worldwide release in September and are touring throughout the year to promote both the anniversary and new release.

After more than a decade of working, and largely owning, the Red Dirt country circuit in Texas and Oklahoma, the Turnpike Troubadours’ moment of truth may be nearing. The hard-playing quintet’s most recent LP, 2015’s The Turnpike Troubadours, marked a true commercial breakthrough as it not only reached Number Three on the country charts, but even cracked the Top 20 of the Billboard 200. Now it’s time for them to follow it up.

On October 20th, the Troubadours will release their fifth album, A Long Way From Your Heart. The band’s lead singer, Evan Felker, continues as its chief songwriter, while the new album will be the first to feature steel-pedal player Hank Early as a full-time member. The 11-song album also boasts a producer with some big-name credits in Ryan Hewitt, who’s previously worked with Red Hot Chili Peppers, the Avett Brothers and the Lumineers.
