The Stallion is comprised of Country Teasers Ben Wallers and Alastair Mackinven. Their first release is nothing less than a massive triple LP expansion of Pink Floyd’s The Wall. It’s often remarkably faithful, despite being built from rougher and darker materials. That’s not to deny that Another Brick in the Wall (Part 2) sounds like Paul Leary letting loose over an early Cabaret Voltaire demo, and I don’t recall Roger Waters’ version of Puddin. Even when things get to Residents levels of deconstruction, the spirit of the original is maintained.

Suite de mes commandes. Nous voici en compagnie d'un chanteur un peu culte. Une espèce de mélange entre Cristiani pour le côté Fender et Yves Simon, mais qui ne serait pas capable de choisir les bons mots pour ses textes. Donc, on reste dans quelque chose de bancal, un peu amateur, limite baba cool anti-tout ,mais ça fait le charme. De plus, je soupconne Rca d'avoir signé ce chanteur en distribution pour le brider par rapport aux deux susnommés. Cet album signait son retour à l'époque suite a des problèmes cardiaques.

Baaba Maal – The Traveller (2016)
Baaba Maal llevaba seis años sin grabar un álbum, pero durante este tiempo no ha permanecido ocioso. Embajador cultural de la ONU, ha dirigido un festival de música anual, Blues du Fleuve, en su ciudad natal de Podor en el norte de Senegal desde 2006, y ha estado participando en el proyecto internacional "Playing for Change", un proyecto musical multimedia y también una Fundación con el objetivo de reunir, grabar y filmar artistas musicales de diferentes culturas.
Maal comenzó su carrera musical con su amigo Mansour Seck, guitarrista ciego y griot de su familia, cuando fundó el grupo Lasli Fouta. En París graban el disco Djaam Leeli en 1984, y a su regreso a Senegal funda un nuevo grupo, Dande Lenol. Sus primeras influencias vienen del R&B norteamericano y del soul, aunque pronto encontró su propio estilo fusionando la música tradicional de su pueblo con pop y reggae. En 1988 publicó su primer disco en solitario, Wango, el primero de una serie de álbumes de gran éxito que también incluye a Baayo de 1991, Lam Toro de 1992, Firin'in Fouta de 1994, y Nomad Soul (1998). Jombaajo apareció en 2000, seguido por Missing You (2001) y Television en 2009.
Depués de una larga trayectoria, era casi inevitable que Baaba Maal titulara alguno de sus discos The Traveller (El viajero). Para él, viaje y música son inseparables ya que salió por primera vez de su pueblo natal hace casi 40 años y no ha parado desde entonces. Su nuevo trabajo es un diario de viaje, "una celebración hermosa y emocionante, conociendo nuevos lugares, encontrando personas desconocidas hasta entonces y haciendo buena música con ellas", según ha reconocido. En este sentido, The Traveller evoca los placeres del viaje y la satisfacción de volver a casa, "No importa cuánto tiempo puedo estar fuera, donde esté, y qué esté haciendo, siempre volveré a Fouta para alimentar mi alma".
Otros temas como "Kalaajo" propician un hermoso encuentro entre las acústicas arpegiadas y unas guitarras eléctricas que bien podrían salir de un disco de Tinariwen. La canción que da título al disco nos remonta al afropop ochentero que tanto triunfo proporcionó a Maal, con la curiosidad añadida del banjo de Winston Marshall (Mumford & Sons).
El dúo de canciones finales, simbólicamente tituladas "War" y "Peace", son dominadas por los recitados del poeta Lemn Sissay. La primera de las piezas es abrupta, tanto en la interpretación de Sissay como en la instrumentación que la rodea, en claro contraste con las delicadas atmósferas que suavizan el mensaje en la subsecuente "Peace". El mensaje es pertinente y queda claro, primando Maal su labor social sobre la de músico, la de celebrar y preservar su pueblo, su cultura y la lengua Fulani.

Declan O’Rourke – Chronicles of the Great Irish Famine (2017)

Fifteen years in the making, this epic song cycle combines the best of traditional Irish music and the heart of modern song-writing to present a series of extraordinary true tales from the most dynamic period in Irelands history. Inspired by John O’Connor’s book “The Workhouses of Ireland” O’Rourke wrote ‘Poor Boys Shoes’ the first song of the collection, and recalls, “The hair stood up on my neck when I read the lines: ‘The man who carried his wife from the workhouse to their old home, mile after weary mile, and was discovered next morning dead, his wife’s feet held to his breast as if he was trying to warm them…’ I had stumbled into a chapter of history I knew almost nothing about. I wanted to be a witness, to share these stories the best way I knew how, through music.” Known as the Great Irish Famine, An Gorta Mór was by far the most impactful era in the recorded history of Ireland. The effect on the population was so devastating that seven generations and 170 years later, Irelands population is still far from where it was in the 1840s. The Famine marked the beginning of a boom in Irish immigration resulting in over 80 million across the world claiming Irish heritage today.
The album covers hyper-real photo illustration featuring O’Rourke and band members re-enacting a scene from one historical tale. Following the ambush and shooting of the landlord ‘Manning’ in Co. Westmeath, locals formed a mob, found Manning’s body, hacked the corpse into pieces and threw them into a ditch. In another story from 1849, the 23 year old captain Curry Shaw abandoned his passengers and made off in the only lifeboat when ‘The Hannah’ struck ice in the frigid waters off Newfoundland. He left them to their fate. In an age where people are still fleeing their homelands en masse, struggling to escape tyranny and poverty, too often in vessels unfit for human transportation, these stories are as relevant as ever and speak to us of our own humanity.
Says O’Rourke, “The songs in this project are an attempt to bring fresh air to an unhealed wound, and to remind the Irish people of what we have overcome.” Nine of the album’s musicians will tour the new compositions across Ireland in December, including Mike McGoldrick, Dermot Byrne, Floriane Blancke, Jack Maher, Chris Herzberger, Catriona Frost, Rob Calder and John Sheahan.
