A captivating collection of classic and contemporary Cuban songs that will have you dancing the night away. Cuba is one of those musically fertile places Putumayo continues to return to. It provides musical “comfort food,” and we just can’t seem to get enough.
There’s tons of sweet trumpet players on the various songs, ranging from a hip “A Buena Vista” by Soneros de Verdad to a toreador’d “Me Dieron la Clave” by Septeto Nacional Ignacio Pifiereiro.
Folksy strums on the guitar take you to the town plaza on Armando Garzon’s Chan Chan” while visions of Pres Prado return with snappy horns on “Puente a Mi Gente” and ”Guajira.”
Spicy salsa makes you beg for more “El Carretero” and rich voices chant in the street on “Oriente.”

he follow-up to 2015’s well-received Pass Through Here, This Dream of Life sees treasured and unabashedly idiosyncratic folk singer/songwriter Kath Bloom once again calling on the talents of a diverse group of collaborators — AVI Buffalo, Imaad Wasif, Mark Kozelek — to help flesh out her powerful, spare, yet always distinctive tales of love and loss. Released via Kozelek’s Caldo Verde label, This Dream of Life may be rooted in the present, but Bloom’s weathered voice, ghostly guitar work, and the earthy, ramshackle production lend an air of the supernatural to the proceedings that more or less renders any kind of time line redundant. This is folk music in its rawest form, and songs like the woeful country-folk lament “Reminds Me of It” and the scorching, punk-addled title cut (“This dream of life is tearing us apart/this dream of life is not for the faint of heart”), both of which evoke Patti Smith far more than they do the oft-cited Vashti Bunyan, are as emotionally direct as they are sonically space-bound.

We haven’t got a new Tom Waits album in years, but we will be getting a series of reissues.Tom Waits explains: “This restoration project could arrogantly be compared to restoring a faded tapestry, a painstaking process that requires meticulous attention to each color faded thread. Spending months on something completed once, many years ago was necessary though cursedly laborious for us.” Working alongside his wife and musical collaborator, Kathleen Brennan, Waits personally remastered each of the six releases.
“Orphans: Brawlers, Bawlers & Bastards” is a limited edition three CD set by Tom Waits, originally released in November 2006. The album is divided into three sections, with each disc being a separate collection in its own. It borrows from Tom Waits’ rock sound, with the first disc being blues and rock-based, the second centred on slow-tempo, melancholic ballads, and the third on more experimental compositions. Additionally, the record contains influences of other genres, including folk, gospel, jazz and roots music. Orphans: Brawlers, Bawlers and Bastards received universal acclaim from critics, who lauded its experimentation and composition, as well as Waits’ vocals. It was listed as one of the highest-scoring albums of the year in Metacritic, and was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Folk Album. Furthermore, it was a fair commercial success, charting in the United States Billboard 200, as well as in Australia, Switzerland and Austria, reaching the top twenty in the latter.

Four CD box set that lovingly documents the final musical years of a true legend, a great songwriter, musician, and formidable frontman. Steve Marriott was sadly taken from us prematurely at the age of 44 on the 30th April 1991. Vocalist and guitarist in such great bands as Small Faces and Humble Pie, Steve clearly had so much more to give, as is evidenced here, and this box set attempts to pay respect to the inspirational talent that is Steve Marriott by compiling four of his last ever live shows from his final year with us in 1991. These live sets contain many old favorite Marriott classics such as ‘Itchycoo Park’, ‘All or Nothing’, ‘Whatcha Gonna Do About It’ and ‘Big Train Stops at Memphis’, live Packet of Three staples, a smattering of rhythm & blues standards, plus a number of Chuck Berry classics in ‘Talking ‘Bout You’ and ‘Memphis Tennessee’. This collection of live sets demonstrates the fact that not only was Steve an immense performer throughout his whole career, but that he was sadly taken from us far too early.
