ゑでぃまぁこん [Eddie Marcon] - 輝く墓標 (Shining on Graveposts)
...And so on, so it goes. A listless, nonphysical drifting that feels as though one's body is allowing its surroundings to pour through its skin, reducing one's existence to a hologram that's without both conscious control and direction.
ゑでぃまぁこん [Eddie Marcon] is a Japanese psychedelic folk troupe that's fronted by Eddie Corman and Jules Marcon. The mysterious anagrammatic compatibility of their respective last names is microcosmic of their atmospheric endeavors, inexplicably creating very poignant and profound links between textures, sounds and ideas that would be merely affable in isolation.
This experience of unpredictable combination is a resolution of both the music and its impact on the mind of the listener.
There was a moment that I'd forgotten for a very long time that I'd experienced when I was roughly 7 years old. Two girls, five or six years older than me, pranced and giggled on a hill lightly garnished by malnourished pines. Amanda, her name was? The noticeably pale complexion, the black hair, the nondescript title. I felt entranced by her essence, too young to be enticed by the siren of lust but too old to be oblivious to the nature of a female's energetic resonance.
It was a cold November day. The field stretched behind the hill to a length that was complemented by the darkening clouds in the sky above it, while the winds built a shrill, thin whir. The experience of perceiving this girl was powerful enough to create a viscosity in time itself, her gallops and laughs suspended in animation. She was completely oblivious to the ominous, impending nature of her environment, as though her own experience with her friend was enough to create a shield of impenetrability amidst the frigid cold and the sharp, prickling gusts.
The essence of that moment now captured in my mind and soul began to unconsciously project itself onto the environment I was seeing. The dark skies over the vast field, the first few snowflakes of many to come carefully drifting through my field of vision. It all became this girl.
It wasn't a good feeling, obviously, but it was a powerful one. My experience as a human being from that point in my life to the moment I write this review, some 14 years later, has taught me that love itself is best experienced in isolation.
As a distant observer to the female condition, one can endlessly romanticize the notion of beauty without the physical limitations of flaw, to which point you're no longer isolating and directing your romantic energy towards one specific girl, but instead using this girl as a telescopic portal to beauty itself, ever-present in everything.
It's very cliché to remark on how 'age is just a number', in my eyes it's inaccurate because many people misappropriate this adage to a personification of their being. It's more accurate, instead, to say that perceptive wisdom is ageless, and can be experienced in its fullest complexity and depth at any point in time.
輝く墓標 (Shining on Graveposts) is a compilation of songs performed by the group, carefully culled and in some cases re-recorded from previous feature-length albums. They're delirious in only the bleakest sense, transcending the plane of listener focus in lieu of moving into the realm of energetic manipulation. Emotionally versatile and driven by an explicit atmospheric vision, Eddie Marcon's forward-thinking execution deliberates nuanced haze in a profound and metaphysical way, transcending the limitations of comparable sonic endeavors by sheer force of will. The thematic chords in Amime are reminiscent of a Wiccan nighttime ritual in a dense forest, and the piercing wails of the chorus in Blues penetrate the spine through the heart, resulting in a grotesque emotional paralysis. More profound to me is the atmospheric transition in the second minute of Tama No Uta, the second track, and its subsequent recurrence throughout the work.
This musical digression, sensitive and nostalgic, is where I heard the memory I transliterated above, a memory I simply hadn't felt since the moment I experienced it. It was the first moment I had ever felt love, and it was with the unbiased clarity of a child's mind that I understood the inherent evil within it.
To abbreviate this ramble, this music literally reached into my subconscious and energized an otherwise inaccessible neuropathway to a memory I forgot I ever had - the discovery of this album was the discovery of a hidden secret, a hidden treasure.
The music that's capable of such an esoteric accomplishment is music reserved for only the highest order of appreciation.

The White Stripes – The Red Demos (2017)
320 kbps | 112 MB | LINKS
This record is Jack and Meg White in the studio working on what will eventually become Icky Thump from The White Stripes. This album is part of their creative process and is a peek behind the curtain into the world of a musical wizard. Most of The Red Demos is instrumental; you can hear that Jack is working through his final ideas for the songs that are going to be on the album.
The songs that are not instrumental are far from finished. The vocal work is less aggressive than what you normally hear on a record from The White Stripes and is more laid back. In fact, some of the lyrics are not complete. The version of Icky Thump that is on this record is particularly interesting because it sounds as if Jack White is making it up as he goes along.
Kasai Allstars – Around Félicité (2017)
Deeply impressed by the music of Congolese collective Kasai Allstars, French-Senegalese director Alain Gomis drew inspiration from their music, and from the voice and character of their singer Muambuyi to write and direct his new fiction movie, entitled Félicité. The film’s eponymous protagonist is a proud, free-willed woman who sets out on a breakneck race through the streets of electric Kinshasa to save her son. Her profession: singer with Kasai Allstars! Félicité was presented in competition at the Berlin International Film Festival, where it obtained the Silver Bear Grand Jury Prize.
The band wrote and performed most of the soundtrack, and appears onscreen playing their own part. Muambuyi’s voice is omnipresent, and is being heard everytime Félicité…
…(played by Congolese actress Vero Tshanda) sings in the bars of Kinshasa, backed by Kasai Allstars.
The Around Félicité album includes the film’s main pieces, performed by Kasai Allstars and by the Kinshasa Symphonic Orchestra (who specially arranged three works by Estonian composer Arvo Pärt), alongside new tracks by Kasai Allstars, as well as interludes consisting of fragments of dialogues and sound bites taken from the soundtrack.
