Sunlit Cross was recorded at Ronniejone$ound with Kyle Spence (who, in addition to recording tracks for Kurt Vile’s B’lieve I’m Goin Down, also drums with Vile and Harvey Milk). Spence worked closely with Roberts to make the record sonically richer than ever before.

The Sunlit Cross crew (including Stephen Tanner of Harvey Milk and Music Blues) would sit on the deck and eat White Castle burgers and drink beers and look out on the Georgia pines with birds and crickets echoing all around. “It feels like you’re in a billionaire’s office in a treehouse,” Roberts says, “making music with some real pros.” Vile, who became enamored with Roberts’ music invited Roberts to tour with him, sings backing vocals and plays banjo on “Silver Chain”. John Neff (Drive-By Truckers) plays pedal steel, and Creston Spiers (Harvey Milk) contributes viola, guitar, and piano.

Al principio su sonido era más pop, luego evolucionaron a sonidos más guitarreros, más rock.

La canción “loca por ti” fue compuesta por José Battaglio (La Frontera).

Hot Tuna — originally dubbed Hot Shit, much to the chagrin of their label, RCA — first began taking shape in 1969, while both Casady and Kaukonen were still active members of the Jefferson Airplane; in fact, their first performances were sandwiched between regular Airplane gigs. As a trio rounded out by harmonica player Will Scarlet (and occasionally including Airplane members Marty Balin and Spencer Dryden).

Unlike recent Hot Tuna albums, Hoppkorv found the group acting less as a mouthpiece for guitarist Jorma Kaukonen’s compositions and more as a heavy rock cover band, handling such familiar material as Buddy Holly’s “It’s So Easy” and Chuck Berry’s “Talkin’ ‘Bout You,” although “Watch the North Wind Rise” was one of Kaukonen’s better tunes. Even on the originals, the tempo had picked up, the arrangements were shorter; nothing here ran as long as five minutes, and the sound had been filled out by the occasional addition of keyboards, second guitar, and background vocals.

Έτσι όπως διατυπώνεται είναι λάθος. Τα πραγματικά πρώτα τραγούδια του Syd Barrett με τους Pink Floyd (και τον Rado “Bob” Klose στην κιθάρα) είναι από τα τέλη ’64-αρχές ’65 και ήταν δυνατά rhythm n’ blues. Σε κάποια, όπως στο “Butterfly” π.χ., υπάρχουν (ήδη από τότε) οι βάσεις του μεγάλου ήχου τους, του ’67. Κυρίως στις μπασογραμμές του Roger Waters και στα φωνητικά του Syd Barrett…

Η συνέντευξη της συζύγου του πρωθυπουργού είναι προκάτ. Όλες οι συνεντεύξεις αυτού του τύπου είναι προκάτ και γι’ αυτό το λόγο είναι, επί της ουσίας, παντελώς αδιάφορες. Γίνονται με σκοπό να ειπωθούν κάποια πολύ συγκεκριμένα πράγματα. Ειπώθηκαν; Τέρμα. Το (ενδιαφέρον) θέμα όμως είναι άλλο…
Γιατί επιλέγεται να δοθεί, τη δεδομένη στιγμή, μια τέτοια συνέντευξη; Το να ισχυριστεί κάποιος πως αυτή η στιγμή είναι τυχαία είναι αφελές. Δεν υπάρχει τίποτα τυχαίο. Όλα εξυπηρετούν, σ’ αυτό το επίπεδο, κάποια πλάνα, κάποιους στόχους. Αλλιώς δεν θα μπλέκονταν στα πόδια μας και οι επικοινωνιολόγοι… 
Φυσικά, ο καθένας από ’μας μπορεί να υποθέσει το «τι» και «πώς», με πολλές πιθανότητες να πέσει μέσα, αλλά δεν έχει νόημα να λέμε. Είναι προτιμότερο ν’ αφήσουμε το χρόνο ν’ απαντήσει…

Κατά τα λοιπά, τη συχνά μισογύνικη κριτική που εξαπολύεται από τους φιλελέδες και άλλους διαφόρους… ειδικούς επί του πολιτικού κουτσομπολιού, γύρω απ’ αυτά τα «έτοιμα» που λέει η κ. Μπαζιάνα, τη θεωρώ δυο φορές πιο προκάτ (και φυσικά παντελώς αδιάφορη στο τετράγωνο).

Πριν τρεις μέρες πέθανε ο παλιός προπονητής του ΟΦΗ, ο Ολλανδός Ευγένιος Γκέραρντ – θα το πήρατε χαμπάρι. Ήταν 78 ετών. 

Ο Γκέραρντ θα μείνει στην ιστορία του ελληνικού ποδοσφαίρου, επειδή κάθισε στον πάγκο του ΟΦΗ για 15 χρόνια, από το 1985 έως το 2000! Ένα διάστημα πολύ μεγάλο, που δεν είναι καθόλου συνηθισμένο στο ελληνικό ποδόσφαιρο. 

Η δική μου γνώμη για τον Γκέραρντ είναι –το λέω επειδή τον «έζησα» ως θεατής και στο γήπεδο– πως δεν ήταν μεγάλος προπονητής, και πως ήταν, απλά, ένας καλός γυμναστής. Το ότι ρίζωσε στον ΟΦΗ οφείλεται στην εμπιστοσύνη που του έδειξε ο Θόδωρος Βαρδινογιάννης. Εξάλλου μετά το πέρασμά του από την ομάδα του Ηρακλείου δεν έκανε κάτι το ιδιαίτερο όπου αλλού πήγε. Πέρασε και από την ΑΕΚ για κάποια χρόνια, θυμάμαι, ως τεχνικός διευθυντής (σωστό) και όχι ως προπονητής.  

Το βασικό ατού τού ΟΦΗ της εποχής, πέραν κάποιων παικτών που ήταν όντως καλοί (Νιόπλιας, Μαχλάς…), ήταν το γήπεδό του, το Γεντί Κουλέ του Ηρακλείου, ένα από τα πιο μικρά γήπεδα που έχω δει (δεν λέω «που υπάρχουν»). Σ’ ένα τέτοιο κλουβί, όπου μπορούσες να σουτάρεις λίγο κάτω από το κέντρο, με την κατεβασιά σου να ξεκινάει από την άμυνα, και με τις φωνές ακόμη και των παικτών και των προπονητών ν’ ακούγονται καθαρά σ’ όλο το γήπεδο σαν σειρήνες, το μόνο που χρειαζόταν ήταν να τρέχεις. Και οι Κρητικοί τρέχανε σα διάολοι, γυμνασμένοι σωστά από τον Ολλανδό.  

Ο Γκέραρντ αγάπησε την Κρήτη και τους Κρητικούς. Δέθηκε με τον τόπο, ενώ κλάφτηκε και κηδεύτηκε σαν Έλληνας. Ήταν, λένε, και πολύ καλός άνθρωπος και φίλος-πατέρας με τους παίκτες του. Φαίνεται πως ήταν κι αυτό ένα από τα όχι φανερά, σε όλους μας, προσόντα του.

Από τη στιγμή που πέρασε απ’ αυτό τον κόσμο ο Guru (θεός σχωρέστον) ο Kendrick Lamar είναι καταδικασμένος να βαράει προσοχές. 

Κανένας ράπερ δεν είχε τη φωνή και την προσωδία του (εγώ τουλάχιστον δεν έχω ακούσει καλύτερον) και κανένας δεν θ’ αποκτήσει ποτέ τα @@ να συνεργαστεί με Donald Byrd, Branford Marsalis, Ronny Jordan, Roy Ayers, Courtney Pine κ.λπ. κ.λπ. Μέγας… Φάτε τη σκόνη του… ραπάδες της οκάς…

Πάντως υπάρχει και το όνομα... Ψευτομακεδονία, που θα μπορούσε να το δεχτεί ο Καμμένος, δίχως να ρίξει την κυβέρνηση (λέμε τώρα – καθότι ο Καμμένος θα είναι ο τελευταίος που θα πηδήξει από τη βάρκα, αν και όποτε χρειαστεί κάτι τέτοιο).

Μα αυτός είναι ο ορισμός του κιτς, αγαπητέ καλλιτέχνη. Η με το ζόρι επικοινωνία των αντιθέτων εννοώ.

Είναι για χοντρή καζούρα οι παπάδες και οι σατανόπληκτοι, αλλά δεν είναι για καζούρα –κάθε άλλο– όσοι μπορεί να υποστηρίζουν πως ο Φύλαξ είναι «άσχετος», καθώς δεν κολλάει με τον περιβάλλοντα χώρο.

Οι φιλελέδες είναι εντελώς για γέλια, για μιαν ακόμη φορά, καθώς αποκαλούν το Σύριζα… Σοβιετία επειδή καταργεί τις εκδρομές των σχολείων στο εξωτερικό (καλά κάνει). Φυσικά ο Σύριζα έχει τόση σχέση με τη Σοβιετία, όσο ο Γκουσγκούνης με τον underground κινηματογράφο. 

Η δική μου γνώμη είναι πως πρέπει να καταργηθούν ακόμη περισσότερες εκδρομές και στο εσωτερικό (κάτι 4ήμερες των Γυμνασίων π.χ.), και να παραμείνουν μόνον οι «περίπατοι» και κάποιες λίγες «εκπαιδευτικές», που να είναι σωστά προετοιμασμένες (π.χ. με συνοδούς-καθηγητές που να μην είναι άσχετοι με το εκάστοτε θέμα) ώστε να έχουν κάποιο νόημα.

Αυτή η ιστορία με τις πλαστικές σακούλες, που πλέον θα μας τις χρεώνουν τα σουπερμάρκετ, είναι γελοία, εντελώς γελοία, και το μόνο που δείχνει, δηλαδή αποδείχνει, είναι πως αυτή η ΕΕ είναι ένας το ίδιο γελοίος και ταυτόχρονα καταπιεστικός μηχανισμός, στον οποίο αξίζει μόνον η χλεύη και το φτύσιμο. 

Άμα δε θέλουν πλαστικές σακούλες, τότε να καταργήσουν ό,τι πλαστικό υπάρχει και δεν υπάρχει από παντού (και πρώτα-πρώτα από σκεύη και συσκευασίες). Αλλά κάτι τέτοιο δεν τολμάνε ούτε να το σκεφτούν. Με το διεστραμμένο μυαλό τους σκέφτονται μόνο δόλιους και ύπουλους τρόπους, προκειμένου να φάνε μερικά ακόμη δισ. από τον κόσμο (και όχι μόνο στην Ελλάδα) για να τα χαρίσουνε στους… καινοτόμους.

Nicole Willis, known for her collaborations with The Soul Investigators & Jimi Tenor produces an album including some of the tracks she composed with the former as well as originals specifically for a fresh collaboration with UMO Jazz Orchestra. Jimi Tenor, who is a multi-faceted artist, has penned all arrangements for the big band and their talented rhythm section. Pete Toikkanen who is a mega-talent guitarist from The Soul Investigators, along with the two, composed those original tracks that highlight their alternative influences. Indie god & personal hero of Ms Willis, Ian Svenonius introduces Ms Willis on the first track and wraps up the LP with a final plea.

Ms Willis delves into her Northern Soul anthems with One In A Million, Together We Climb and Break Free (Shake A Tailfeather) and with the never released (Everybody) Do The Watusi. UMO Jazz Orchestra add extra horn dynamic and Tenor’s arrangements shine, as they have done so on the Soul Investigators’ records. Pete Toikkanen whose unique style has been a defining asset of the group give the UMO Jazz Orchestra a rawness in treatment that they have never quite exhibited before. The mixes flatter all involved and are full. Mr Svenonius is superb without even trying and is on as ever.

A new series from the Discograph label: INFLUENCE seeks to present songs made famous by iconic figures in music history – Elvis Presley, Bob Dylan and Johnny Cash – alongside the original versions that provided the influence and inspiration. Hence, as an example, it is Mel Tormé’s Blue Moon that is included as the parallel to the Elvis version, as it was this particular interpretation of the oft-covered Rodgers & Hart classic that Elvis discovered and loved in April 1949. Of course sometimes the originals are as famous, or more so, as the cover versions, but to hear the two together is illuminating and insightful.
