The new Go Getters album Love & Hate is released just as the Swedish trio is nominated for the best rockabilly band at Ameripolitan Music Award 2018 in Memphis, Tennessee.
It is almost a decade since their previous album Hot Rod Roadeo appeared in 2008, and Love & Hate brings a mix of Peter Sandberg originals such as Rattlesnake, Don’t Get Me Started and the title track, along with cover songs given the Go Getters rockabilly makeover.
Sometimes the front sleeve of an album is beautiful and when
you listen to it, it disappoints. Today we have the opposite.
Quite a dull sleeve but once the music starts to play, there’s
no turning back. The album contains some of the songs that
were on the CD Pirates Choice, my first encounter with
Orchestre Baobab, the cd version was recorded in 1982,
this lp is from 1983. Recordings sound slightly different
but may be the same ones. Wonderful atmospheric music..
De ene keer is de hoes van een plaat geweldig en dan denk je
als je’m draait, jammer. Vandaag is de hoes tamelijk saai maar
als de muziek begint ben je direkt verkocht. De elpee bevat
een aantal van de nummers die op de CD Pirates Choice staan,
mijn eerste kennismaking met Orchestre Baobab. De cd versie
werd opgenomen in 1982, deze plaat is uit 1983. De opnames
klinken nèt even anders maar zijn misschien dezelfde.

Paul plays an authentic style of 60s garage music, incorparating elements from the Michigan Teen-Scene, New England Teen-Scene and also the West Coast Folk-rock and Psychedelic 65-67 period, this triad of 60s regional sounds within the “garage” idiom is Messis’ base work and musical vibe – If you’re familiar with the above “sounds” then you will surely dig his music.

Before, During, After: The Story of 10cc is a new box set devoted to the history and legacy of Eric Stewart, Graham Gouldman, Kevin Godley and Lol Creme. This 4CD collection includes a disc of the group’s hits (“During”); from there, it’s a disc of post-10cc material (“After”) by Godley & Creme, Wax (Gouldman’s duo with singer-songwriter Andrew Gold), solo tracks by Stewart, Gouldman and Godley; Creme’s tenure in The Art of Noise in 1999 and even the rare single mix of “Pretty Little Head,” a track Stewart penned for Paul McCartney’s Press to Play in 1986.
The remaining two “Before” discs cover much of the group’s early session days at Strawberry Studios in their native Stockport (where Stewart was a business partner). This includes not only nine obscure singles and work for diverse clients like The Ohio Express and the Manchester City Football Club, but material by pre-10cc bands Doctor Father and Hotlegs, early solo Graham Gouldman material, Stewart’s work with The Mindbenders (including the hit “A Groovy Kind of Love”) and even session work for Neil Sedaka on tunes like “Solitaire” and “Love Will Keep Us Together.”
Curated with input from all four band members, this box serves as the definitive introduction to the world of 10cc.
