I have never seen a drop like this in audience and I'm not doing anything differently here on my blog. Yet, the traffic suddenly swan-dived to about 200 per day, the lowest since I started blogging in 2010. 

Presumably, a minor adjustment / correction wouldn't result in such a radical and immediate shift like this -- what should I be on the lookout for? Is Google penalizing me specifically? Was there a major update in mid-January?

Όπως έχουμε ήδη γράψει, δυο-τρεις φορές στο πρόσφατο παρελθόν, μέσα στο 2017 η Inner Earσυμπλήρωσε δέκα χρόνια κυκλοφοριών. Αυτήν τη δεκαετία τη γιόρτασε, η πατρινή εταιρεία, με μια σειρά 45αριών, δώδεκα στον αριθμό, τα οποία κυκλοφόρησαν σε 100 αντίτυπα, όλα την περασμένη χρονιά, με ροή… ένα ανά μήνα Έχουμε ήδη γράψει για τα έντεκα απ’ αυτά, ενώ τώρα θα πούμε λίγα λόγια και για το δωδέκατο, που τυπώθηκε στις αρχές Δεκεμβρίου. Κάπως έτσι θα συμπληρωθεί και το σχετικό κουτί, που παρέχεται από την εταιρεία μέσω συνδρομής (όπως και τα δισκάκια εξάλλου).

Beetrootλέγεται το συγκρότημα που ακούμε τώρα – ένα τρίο το οποίο αποτελούν οι Σωτήρης Νικολάου φωνητικά, Πέτρος Παπαβασιλείου κιθάρα και Κωνσταντίνος Τσιώλης πιάνο, σύνθια.
Το πρώτο κομμάτι του 45αριού τους έχει τίτλο “Set me free” και διαθέτει ακουστικό χαρακτήρα – αν υποστηρίξουμε πως η ακουστική κιθάρα έχει γερή παρουσία στην ενοργάνωση. Υπάρχει βεβαίως και ηλεκτρική, όπως υπάρχουν και γεμίσματα από πλήκτρα, δίνοντας, όλα τούτα, μια συνολική υπόσταση σ’ αυτό το ήσυχο, αργό και στα όρια του spoken word(όσον αφορά στη φωνή) track.
Το “Fire in the rain” είναι πιο βαρύ σαν κομμάτι – με πιο ισχυρό ηλεκτρικό στοιχείο εννοώ, αλλά με την ίδια… και κάπως αποστασιοποιημένη (όσο και «πειραγμένη») ερμηνεία του τραγουδιστή. Τα πλήκτρα κάνουν πολύ καλή δουλειά κι εδώ, όπως και οι κιθάρες (που έχουν ακόμη πιο ισχυρή παρουσία προς το τέλος του τραγουδιού.
Δύο κομμάτια που ξεχωρίζουν για το στυλ τους είναι αυτά των Beetroot, ενός τρίο που θ’ άξιζε να δοκιμαστεί και στη μεγάλη φόρμα.

El grupo Jojo Effect surgió del proyecto que Anne Schnell, cantante y compositora alemana, y los productores Kitty the Bill, Maxim Illion (Club des Belugas) y Juergen Kausemann (de Chinchin Records) fundaron en 2005. Los temas de Jojo Effect han sido vendidos más de 2 millones de veces, licenciados más de 300 veces hasta ahora en compilaciones como Café del Mar, Klassik Lounge, Brazilectro, Bar Lounge Classics… (por nombrar algunas) y para series de TV y anuncios en todo el mundo.
La música de Jojo Effect se puede clasificar como nujazz, una mezcla de electrojazz, jazzdance, bossa, latin, jazzfunk y souljazz, recordando en muchos momentos a Pink Martini. Με δυνατά τραγούδια, με μουσικές που κρατούσαν στο βάθος τους την ουσία των σίξτις (CAN, Captain Beefheart, Velvets, british pop σαν τους Move κ.λπ.), με στίχους εντελώς προσωπικούς, με κοινωνικοπολιτικές αναφορές, λογοτεχνικές επίσης (φαντασίας κ.λπ. Lovecraft, Machen) και με απόψεις αριστερές οπωσδήποτε μέσα στην ιδιομορφία τους. Ορκισμένος εχθρός του «συστήματος»… μέχρι και ο Στάλιν χώραγε στις πάντα ουσιαστικά προβοκατόρικες απόψεις του. RIP Mark E. Smith.

Οι Fall είχαν έρθει στην Ελλάδα για πρώτη φορά το 1982, σ’ εκείνη την ιστορική συναυλία στο Σπόρτιγκ. Εγώ τους είδα 6 χρόνια αργότερα, αρχές ’88 πρέπει να ήταν, στο Ρόδον (ήταν, μάλλον, η δεύτερη φορά που έρχονταν στην Ελλάδα).
Τι θυμάμαι από τότε, τι μου είχε κάνει εντύπωση; Κάτι που το ήξερα από τους δίσκους, αλλά ήταν άλλο πράγμα να το ακούς ζωντανά. Ο τρόπος που τραγουδούσε ο Mark E. Smith. Αυτό το διαρκές ραπάρισμα, που ήταν τελείως προσωπικό και αυτόνομο.

Django Django – Marble Skies (2018)

Anyone who judges an album by the breadth of the influences displayed on it will be delighted to know that Django Django’s Marble Skies variously features the motorik beat popularised by krautrockers Neu!; twanging guitars with roots in 60s surf music instrumentals; the clipped, electronic chatter of early 80s synthpop; cavernous echo effects drawn from dub reggae; an interlude heavy on the use of vocoder evoking that mid-70s moment when everyone from Electric Light Orchestra to the Alan Parsons Project deployed it to dramatic, behold-the-sound-of-the-future-puny-earthlings effect and airy, expansive vocal harmonies from the sunny end of psychedelia. It is worth noting that the London quartet’s third album features all of these influences within four minutes, on the opening title track. After that, the album becomes substantially more eclectic: its second track, Surface to Air, sounds like something made with an eye on the current singles chart, complete with an asthmatic-sounding dancehall-based rhythm and gentle synthesisers that recall that strain of pop inspired by tropical house. Long-time Django Django fans who spotted drummer David Maclean informing the press he felt their last album, 2015’s Born Under Saturn, was “a bit bloated” are warned that the band’s corrective doesn’t involve paring back their sound so much as cramming the same number of ideas into a shorter running time.

“A Decade Of The Mad Axeman’ is devoted to the ten years between 2007 and 2016 which saw Michael Schenker burst with musical creativity once more, composing dozens of exceptional songs. Although he worked with many different musicians during this era, all compositions are unmistakably 100% Michael Schenker. 2007 saw Michael Schenker rise like a phoenix from the ashes and return to his musical roots on his new MSG release ‘In The Midst Of Beauty’. The team consisting of vocalist Gary Barden, with whom Schenker composed all twelve songs on the album, ex-Whitesnake bassist Neil Murray, Toto drummer Simon Phillips and Deep Purple keyboardist Don Airey brought back to life the spirit of the 1980 debut album »Michael Schenker Group«. In 2011 Michael Schenker, an artistically restless musician who continues to redefine himself and his music, put together a new group supported by various guest musicians. Filled with dynamic power, energy and inspiration, Schenker entered a new phase of his life with Temple Of Rock. He himself referred to it as a new level of existence that allowed him to enjoy life more than ever before and to reap the joys of his previous development. He released three studio albums and two live productions under the Temple Of Rock banner. Michael Schenker had succeeded in enlisting two former Scorpions members from the »Lovedrive« era for this new band: Francis Buchholz on bass and Herman Rarebell on drums, as well as erstwhile Rainbow frontman Doogie White and Wayne Findlay on keyboards. Michael Schenker surprised everyone in 2016 with a very special live release, recorded in Tokyo. Turin Brakes don’t hang about. The estimable London 4-piece release their eighth studio album January 26th 2018, followed by a major UK tour. The opening track ‘Would You Be Mine’ is available as an ‘instant grat’ track from November 10th. After seven studio albums and a million records sold worldwide, Turin Brakes might’ve been excused a bit of downtime, however 2016 saw them return to national radio playlists with all 3 singles from the critically acclaimed album ‘Lost Property’, coupled with 18 months touring across the UK, Europe and Australia, with a plethora of festival appearances in between. But along the way new songs just kept on bubbling through. The band (Olly Knights, Gale Paridjanian, Rob Allum and Eddie Myer) along with co/producer Ali Staton made a hasty return to the legendary Rockfield Studios in Wales (where Queen recorded Bohemian Rhapsody) to strike while the inspiration was buzzing no downtime! The music starts as it has since the beginning with voices and guitars, and evolves outwards from there the journey ‘Invisible Storm’ takes runs from the acoustic centre of the band’s sound in tracks like ‘Deep Sea Diver’ and ‘Don’t Know Much’, through to the indie-pop groove of ‘Wait’ and ‘Life Forms’ and far beyond into wide-screen space with ‘Would You be Mine and ‘Other Side of the Sun Olly Knights: “…the idea of an invisible storm came to me as a theme during the end of writing the album, I’ve always loved the quote “everyone you meet is fighting their own war, so be kind”. Invisible Storm (the album) is very much coming from that sentiment, that we are all at the mercy of our own internal weather systems despite outward appearances that may paint different pictures”. “This album tries to trace a line between these tense internal struggles and what’s happening outside of ourselves. Perhaps even suggesting a link between the invisible storms of our inner worlds and the outer tensions and social and political storms that seem to be sweeping the world these days.”

Mary Gauthier’s Rifles & Rosary Beads may be one of the most important album releases of the year.

Simply put, anyone who claims to care about those serving in America’s armed forces should listen to these deeply personal stories which transcend petty political positioning. Yes, the personal is most definitely political in these songs co-written by Mary Gauthier and an assortment of wounded veterans and their family members, and their stories should make anyone think beyond the simplistic positioning of our contemporary debates.

SongwritingWith:Soldiers is an organization founded by songwriter Darden Smith that holds retreats pairing wounded veterans with established songwriters to help them to find a voice to express their experiences and through their sharing work towards emotional and spiritual healing. Songwriters who have participated in the program include Beth Nielsen Chapman, Marshall Crenshaw, Radney Foster, and Amy Speace, and some of the songs produced have been recorded by major country artists including Willie Nelson, Trisha Yearwood, Luke Bryan, and Garth Brooks.

Mary Gauthier is a natural to serve as a contributor to this cause, her powerful autobiographical songwriting on past records addressing such topics as addiction, abandonment, and the search for meaning amidst pain. Turning her empathetic ear to the plights of others, she guides a group of veterans and their families through the composition of 11 highly effective and affecting songs. Of the experience, Gauthier writes “None of the veterans are artists. They don’t write songs; they don’t know that songs can be used to move trauma. Their understanding of song doesn’t include that. For me, it’s been the whole damn deal. Songwriting saved me. It’s what I think the best songs do, help articulate the ineffable, make the invisible visible, creating resonance, so that people (including the songwriter) don’t feel alone.”
