Lucho Argain is also present on this one. I could not find a
year of release for this record. As far as my Spanish goes
however I think it must be one of their earlier albums.
One way or the other, we’re dealing with 12 sweet songs..

ERIK THORMOD HALVORSEN SEXTET ένας νορβηγός jazzman, με παρουσία από τα seventies, σ’ ένα καινούριο άλμπουμ
Το σεξτέτο του νορβηγού τρομπετίστα και φλουγκελχορνίστα Erik Thormod Halvorsen (με ισχυρή παρουσία στην Sandvika Storband ήδη από τα πρώτα χρόνια του ’70), πέραν του ιδίου, έχει μέλη τους Dave Edge τενόρο, φλάουτο, Freddy Hoel Nilsen πιάνο, Frode Kjekstad κιθάρα, Agnar Aspaas μπάσο και Lars Erik Norum ντραμς. Επίσης υπάρχουν και πέντε πνευστοί (δύο τρομπετίστες, δύο τρομπονίστες κι ένας κορνίστας), που ακούγονται στα δύο από τα δέκα tracks τού άλμπουμ “Social Call” [Losen, 2018], χωρίς όμως να μεταβάλλουν κατά τι τη γενικότητα. Που είναι, βασικά, η προσπάθεια αυτών των Βορειοευρωπαίων να παρουσιάσουν έναν τύπο jazz, πολύ κοντά στα αμερικανικά πρότυπα, με ελάχιστες ή και μηδαμινές nordic αναφορές.

Συνθέσεις λοιπόν των Gigi Gryce, Thelonious Monk, JohnnyGreen, συν δύο (αμερικανικά) στάνταρντ, συν ένας Michel Legrand, συν τέσσερα originals… είναι η σούμα τού σετ, που μας κερνάει εδώ το σεξτέτο τού Erik Thormod Halvorsen, επιχειρώντας, πάντα, με ταλέντο και με γνώση.
Παιχταράδες είναι οι Νορβηγοί, δεν υπάρχει θέμα, με σαφείς και ξεκάθαρες αναφορές ακόμη και στα παιξίματά τους (όπως και να το κάνουμε μιαν… ιδέα Clifford Brownεντοπίζεται πίσω από την τρομπέτα του Halvorsen), αλλά και με διαθέσεις που κινούνται συχνά προς μια κατεύθυνση παράκαμψης των ινδαλμάτων τους, όπως αποδεικνύουν κομμάτια σαν το “Latino blue”, μια γρήγορη δωδεκάμετρη σύνθεση με πολύ… φρέσκο αέρα ή το “Blues for Henry P.” (γραμμένο, από τον Halvorsen, για τον Henry Pehrson – πρώτο μαέστρο της Sandvika Storband).
Άρα; Άρα ένα θαυμάσιο από πάσης πλευράς τζαζ άλμπουμ, με συνθέσεις (πρωτότυπες και διασκευασμένες) άψογα εκτελεσμένες από την μπάντα ενός μουσικού, όχι πολύ γνωστού στην Ελλάδα, αλλά με μακριά και σημαντική ιστορία.
