The Muckers – One More Stout (2018)
160 kbps | 102 MB | LINKS
“One More Stout” is the sophomore album by Atlanta based band The Muckers. Jeff Shaw (vocals, fiddle, mandolin), Brady Truelove (guitars vocals), Randall English (bass, clarinet, vocals), Steve Lingo (drums, vocals) and Dave Long (accordion, vocals) have recorded a well-balanced album of originals and covers.
The album kicks off with “Let’s All Go to the Bar”. This is a song by a band called Deer Tick, but one may think that it’s a self-penned number. The accordion plays the major role and there is a good mandolin passage at the end. The other covers are tracks no. 4, no. 6, no.8 and no. 9. “Black Irish” is an upbeat song by a band called The Devil Makes Three. It begins with the fiddle, and then the other instruments join. “Long Gravel Road” is a fiddle led number by Cutthroat Shamrock. Great Big Sea “Old Black Rum” is played with gusto. “God Save Ireland” is a lively number with amazing accordion à la The Pogues. My fave together with “Let’s All Go to the Bar”.
Jeff has put words to an East European tune on “Limonchiki”. Fiddle and accordion do a great job on this number that The Dreadnoughts fans will appreciate. Finally, a trad. tune closes the album: “Castle Kelly”. The Muckers deliver a kick-ass rendition of a tune that is not overexposed.
The originals are mainly a bunch of excellent drinking songs: the catchy “Day Drinking”, the Poguesish “One More Stout”, “Whiskey” (which gets a balladeer treatment) and the cow-punk number “Drunker’n Cooter Brown” featuring accordion and mandolin. Special mention to the second cut, “Hellbound” and its awesome fiddle arrangements.
Jeff and the boys keep up the good work that they began with their debut album. They take the spirit of The Clancy Brothers and The Pogues and add their own American influences to the mix. Besides, they stay away from the usual overexposed standards and their choice of the songs to cover is spotless. In other words, The Muckers are a fantastic band to party.
Slim Paul – Dead Already (2018)
320 kbps | 130 MB | LINKS
Do not be fooled by the title of the album, “Dead already” because its author is alive and well proves it here for more than 57 minutes. I had temporarily abandoned the blues lately but Slim Paul was able to call me to order and get back on track with this little gem explosive …
If the name of Slim Paul does not tell you anything, maybe that of Scarecrow will remind you something … This group Toulouse has made a lot of talk with his new mix of blues with Hip Hop. Slim Paul was the guitarist and singer. He has long been immersed in the roots of the blues and has a passion for African-American music.
In 2016, weary of the adventure Scarecrow (which took his members to play until the States), he leaves alone in New York to immerse himself in music and write what will soon be his 3rd EP, “Not yet man” that will be released in 2017. The bases of his future first album, “Dead already”, are almost ready …
The 12 titles present are real firebrands full of urban blues often bleeding (“Same mornin”) or the edge of the explosion (“Stuck on my own city”, “Lady sorrow”) where seem to prowl the ghosts of Calvin Russell, Rory Gallagher or Muddy Waters. Gospel finds its place in opening with “One of these days”, as well as folk with “Nola song” (tribute to New Orleans), and rhythm ‘n’ blues with “Let me in”.
The voice of “Slim” Paul is the perfect instrument to best express the passion and rage he conveys through his blues. The guitar (electric or acoustic) is the logical and natural extension … A master stroke!

Steve Ellis – Boom! Bang! Twang! (2018)
320 kbps | 101 MB | LINKS
On 6 February 1968, one of the UK’s most endearing number ones – Everlasting Love – hit the top of the charts. The group behind it were called Love Affair fronted by singer Steve Ellis who was acknowledged as having one of the best soul-rock voices in the business. With their sharp Mod looks and a host of national TV appearances behind them, Love Affair found themselves enjoying the kind of exposure and adulation that was being afforded to the likes of the Beatles and Rolling Stones.
Their version of Everlasting Love remains a stone-cold classic, one which not only reached number one in the UK, but went Top 10 in 7 other countries and has amassed over 10 million sales to date. Its enduring charm has seen it copied by everyone from U2 to the Cast from Casualty, as well as appearing in numerous films and adverts globally. However, the only member of Love Affair to appear on the actual record is Steve Ellis and it’s this fact that provides the backdrop to a 50-year tale of triumph, tragedy and resurrection.
2018 marks a very important anniversary for Steve Ellis. in the same year that Everlasting Love celebrates its 50th birthday, Steve releases a new album ‘Boom Bang Twang!’ on 20 April, 2018. Fittingly enough it reunites Steve with the label where he enjoyed great success with Love Affair CBS/Sony and is an expertly crafted mix of new songs and some heartfelt covers with guests and long-time friends Paul Weller, COW, Manfred Mann’s Mike D’Abo, Kev Wallbank (The Dream Foundry), Andy Crofts and Ben Gardelier (The Moons). ‘Boom Bang Twang!’ is the work of a man who believes in not resting on his laurels.
‘Boom Bang Twang!’ shifts effortlessly through soul, rock, rhythm & blues, reggae and pop with all the quality one would hope for from an artist who’s been there, seen it, done it, and still has the t-shirt. The first single Lonely No More, co-written with Paul Weller, is a glorious Northern Soul-esque shaker absolutely primed for radio. Soul Trek is another stand-out. Utilising an exquisite John Schroeder string arrangement, Steve delivers an outright corker of a song. Forever (written by COW) is a real sweet, catchy love song; Forgot To Be Your Lover a truthful and respectful cover of the William Bell classic, whilst Gerry Marsden’s Don’t Let The Sun Catch You Crying runs deep, soul deep. Cry Me A River (again with Paul Weller) is a nitty gritty rhythm & blues stomper, Jimmy Cliff’s Sitting In Limbo gets the Steve Ellis makeover as does Tim Hardin’s Black Sheep Boy, whilst album closer Oh Death, sees Steve explore psychedelic blues to dramatic effect.
The Steve Ellis story begins In1966 when as a 15-year-old, Steve got his first professional gig singing in a group called the Soul Survivors. After the band’s first release on Decca, they moved on to the CBS label and became one of the most successful British pop acts of the late 1960s under their new name ‘Love Affair’. Affair scoring a string of chart busting singles in 1968 including Everlasting Love, Rainbow Valley, Bringing Back The Good Times, One Road and A Day Without Love, in autumn 1969, Steve Ellis walked out of Love Affair to re-think his musical direction. CBS retained him as a solo artist and his future appeared decidedly rosy. Steve seemed to have the world at his feet, but it didn’t work out that way.
Some excellent solo singles and a killer soundtrack (Loot) failed to ignite, then came stints with 2 new bands – firstly under the name of Ellis – followed by one album with rock super group Widowmaker – before another solo album was shelved due to contractual issues. This was followed by tragedy when, having given up on the music industry to work as a Docker in order to get “match fit” and to re-think his next musical step, Steve suffered a most horrific accident or as he calls it “an altercation with some two-tonne forklift blades.” An incredibly brave, 8-year fight to regain his mobility ensued and led him back to music in the early 90s.
For the best part of the next 10 years, he toured as Steve Ellis’ Love Affair and once again found himself being cited as a Mod hero to a new generation of fans whilst retaining the support and respect of his own musical peers. One such occasion was the 2001 Steve Marriott Memorial Concert (held at the Astoria), a much-revered show which saw Steve perform alongside Noel Gallagher, Paul Weller, Peter Frampton and Small Faces’ Ian McLagan and Kenney Jones. In 2004, It was somewhat fitting to see Steve joining Pete Townshend, Ronnie Wood and Slim Chance for the unforgettable Ronnie Lane tribute show at the Royal Albert Hall.
The past few years has seen Steve release two acclaimed solo albums ‘Best Of Days’ & ‘Ten Commitments’, as well as touring regularly and generally applying himself at what he does best – singing and performing from the heart with that tremendous (and most definitely intact) voice of his. Now back with the label where it all happened originally and with a fine new album to unveil, Steve Ellis has come full circle.

Chas and Dave – A Little Bit of Us (2018)
320 kbps | 78 MB | LINKS
Chas & Dave have announced their first album in over 30 years. The ‘Rabbit’ rock ‘n’ roll legends will release ‘A Little Bit of Us’ on April 20 and it will feature a song addressing Chas Hodges’ battle with cancer. The 74-year-old singer – who was diagnosed with oesophagus cancer last year – overcame the disease, and wrote the track ‘Sling Your Hook’ as a response to his battle.
Speaking about the upcoming record, he said: “This is our first Chas & Dave-produced album for over thirty years. Tell you what, though, we ain’t waiting another 30 years before we do the next one. The older you get, it seems time goes quicker. Yet as soon as we got in the studio it seemed like yesterday that we were producing our last album. My mum used to say the same thing in 1960: ’30 years ago I was 17 and it seems like yesterday.’ ‘How can 30 years ago seem like yesterday?’ says I, slightly mockingly. ‘Well it bloody well does’, says mum, getting the deserved last word, and that’s that.”
Chas and his musical partner Dave Peacock, 72, will also be reunited with an old friend for the LP.
Chas explained: “The bloke who owns the studio where we recorded much of this album is Brian Juniper. He introduced me to Dave back in 1963 – Dave was at Junior School with him. I was at Senior School with him when, as 13 year olds, we started a Skiffle group over 60 years ago.”
Last summer, the duo made a triumphant live return after Chas had an operation to remove his tumour and completed his chemotherapy and radiotherapy sessions.
And the ‘Ain’t No Pleasing You’ singer revealed that he was determined to get a new LP out and he had lots of songs to pick from.
Speaking to BANG Showbiz last year, Chas said: “I’ve got plenty of stuff that I’ve been writing over the years, so we’ve got lots of material to record. We have never rushed into an album, and we won’t do it this time.”
