This is music for all the mentally or physically abused, raped or bullied people who were able to accept and cherish their wounds and go ahead with their lives. This record is a home as well for all those broken ones who decided instead to follow the path of loneliness through branches of grim beauty and passed away beyond the dreaming forest, lying forever like stars in winter rapture for a last day of swirling snow in a mossy lake of ghosts. They are now ashen spirits in misty fields and found their graves in the heart of woods, before finally ascending above black shores to breathe the purest air of a better otherworldly place. We wish them peace and we respect their final choice : may these songs provide a mirror to connect our world with their lost forgotten kingdom.

The Essential by Earl Thomas Conley highlights the gruff-voiced country singer’s 20 chart-topping entries from the late ’70s and early ’80s. These original RCA recordings include “Holding Her and Loving You,” “Angel in Disguise,” “Chance of Loving You,” and his first number one single, “Fire and Smoke.” The only complaint about this set is the omission of Conley’s duets with Emmylou Harris (“We Believe in Happy Endings,” number one in 1988) and Anita Pointer (“Too Many Times”).

A great collection of love and wedding songs from a great singer-songwriter.Joe found inspiration for many of these songs from his late wife, Eliza. “I Need Love To Stay Here” and “Prisoner Of Love” were like musical conversations from the heart with her. In many ways this album is like the journey that we all go on when we experience love. The highs and lows and the ups and downs of being in love. A journey that everyone experiences at one time or another.
“Talk With My Pillow” originated from the talks they would have in bed at night. A lot of late night talks. “Rain Drops” came from conversations where Joe couldn’t find the right words to say, and the remorse he felt would bring on the tear drops.
