The group fronted by singer Keith Relf and guitarist Jimmy Page had undergone many changes over the years but remained at the forefront of innovation, before they split in July 1968. While they spent most of their final years together touring the US they also visited Europe, where the historic recordings on this marvellous 12-track LP captured them in full flow.
Here they perform classics like Shapes Of Things , Over, Under, Sideways, Down and I’m A Man on German TV show Beat! Beat! Beat! in March 1967 and another eight versions of these and other songs like Heart Full Of Soul , Little Games and My Baby recorded at the famed Konserthuset in Stockholm in April that year. It’s a special thrill to hear the pre-Led Zeppelin-era Jimmy Page rockin out on Under, Over, Sideways, Down , while Keith, Jim McCarty (drums) and Chris Dreja (bass) show just how exciting the band was live. Unmissable and vital vinyl to have and to hold and to hear.

Dan Melchior is a singer/songwriter/guitarist who grew up in Shepperton (just outside London), England and is often labeled a ‘garage rock’ musician. He has appeared on 30+ recordings as a solo performer, a collaborator with Billy Childish and Holly Golightly and as a member of Dan Melchior’s Broke Revue.

Ik heb al eerder gewezen op die geweldige cd op Strut Records
genaamd Haïti Direct. Een van de nummers erop komt van deze
elpee van Les Fantaisistes d’Haïti uit 1970. Het is het laatste nummer
op de plaat en het zevende op de cd getiteld ‘Panno Caye Nan Bois
Chêne’. Sfeervolle compas van deze top groep. Met het ouder worden
gaan we ook van steeds oudere muziek houden, geinig fenomeen..
It is not the first time pointing at that marvelous cd on Strut Records
called Haïti Direct. One of the songs on it comes from this album by
Les Fantaisistes d’Haïti from 1970. It is the last song on the record
and the seventh on the cd titled ‘Panno Caye Nan Bois Chêne’.
Nice atmospheric compas by this great band. Getting older, one
starts liking older music as well, funny phenomenon..
