 Could there be vegetable aliens? And if they are smart enough to grow spaceships, would they, when visiting earth, not notice that all sunflowers in the nortern hemisphere are looking in the same direction east? And the sunflowers in the southern hemisphere all look in the opposite direction west? That must look weird from outer space.

When sunflowers are young, during the day they follow the movements of the sun. Hence their name. They achieve this by growing each side of the stem in different speed. Awesome, yes?

Sunflowers are native to Mexico. Evidence indicates that the tribes of Central Mexico were growing wild sunflowers as early as 3000 BC. Some evidence even points to sunflowers having been domesticated by the native people of the Americas before corn.

So thank you, oh Mexico. For the beautifull sunflower and for Jorge Negrete aka "el Girasol Humano"

Zouden er ook plantaardige aliens bestaan? En als ze dan slim genoeg zijn om een ruimteschip te groeien, zou het ze dan tijdens hun bezoek aan planeet aarde niet opvallen dat alle zonnebloemen op het noordelijk halfrond naar dezelfde kant kijken (oost)? En op het zuidelijk halfrond precies de andere kant op? Dat moet er vanaf de ruimte toch heel apart uitzien.

Als zonnebloemen nog jong zijn, volgen ze gedurende de dag met enige vertraging de baan van de zon. Vandaar hun naam. Dat doen ze door beurtelings een andere kant van de stengel sneller te laten groeien. Bijzonder hè?

Zonnebloemen komen oorspronkelijk uit Mexico. Daar werden ze 3000 jaar voor onze jaartelling al gedomesticeerd door indianenstammen daar, eerder zelfs dan mais.

Dank! Oh Mexico, voor de prachtige zonnebloem en voor Jorge Negrete, ook wel bekend als "el Girasol Humano" ofwel de menselijke zonnebloem...

Killing Technology is the third studio album by Canadian heavy metal band Voivod. It was released in 1987 on Noise Records and was the first to combine elements of progressive rock in the band's thrash metal sound. According to interviews contemporary to the release of Killing Technology, by 1986 Voivod were more influenced by hardcore punk and crossover bands than by other metal bands, with only Kreator and Motörhead still appreciated by all band members. A music video was made for the song "Ravenous Medicine". Estimated sales are more than 60,000 copies, worldwide.
