Peyroux’s new album, Anthem, finds the singer-songwriter collaborating with writers / musicians Patrick Warren (Bonnie Raitt, JD Souther, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Lana Del Rey, The Red Hot Chilli Peppers), Brian MacLeod (Sara Bareilles, Leonard Cohen, Tina Turner, Ziggy Marley) and David Baerwald (Joni Mitchell, David and David, Sheryl Crow), who are also the basic rhythm section players on the album. Together, they cast a sober, poetic, and at times philosophical eye on the current state of the world. Produced and co-written by Larry Klein, the album came to life during the pivotal 2016 US elections, with the writers absorbing a “constant stream of news” over many months. The “consciously not too preachy” songs, fuse Peyroux’s, at times political outlook, with glimpses into her personal world. Honed and patiently refined with fellow writers they mix the public with the personal, striking that perfect equilibrium of dark humour and compassion. The album features two covers: Paul Eluard’s WW2 poem Liberté, and the title track, Leonard Cohen’s monumental Anthem, which also marks Peyroux’s third interpretation of the iconic poet’s work.

Ian Gillan has defined this new studio album as “a collection of catchy rhythms and feel-good melodies”. This understating definition shows Gillan’s ability to still look at those songs and his whole career with the same eyes of the 18 year old boy who sang them many years ago.
But there is a lot more to this recordings… By paying tribute to music legends such as Chuck Berry, The Drifters, Jerry Lee Lewis, Ray Charles, Buddy Holly and Bo Diddley, Gillan and The Javelins have not only managed to do that.
Avoiding the use of any modern technology, the band has managed to find the spontaneity and true sense of freedom of pop and rock and roll music of 50 years ago, probably without completely realizing it themselves. One world superstar and four friends who have taken very different directions in life (none decided to “turn pro” as they would say it) but still able to capture the essence of what being a performing band is about.
This album is what happened during four days of recordings in a studio in Hamburg, Germany, where instruments, microphones, lyrics sheets and memories were the only tools allowed.
This album is not an act of nostalgia, or a celebration of the purity of the old days versus modernity. This is simply what the Javelins were in 1963… and this is what they are now, if they happen to meet in the studio, embracing their guitars and look at each other with a big smile on their face.

The Band‘s debut album Music From Big Pink will be reissued as a 50th anniversary super deluxe edition box set in August, that includes a new stereo mix and a 5.1 surround mix of the 1968 album.
The box set is a five-disc set which comprises CD, blu-ray audio, 2LP vinyl and seven-inch and comes with a hardcover book. The double vinyl LP and CD elements are available separately, but not the blu-ray with the 5.1 mix.
The songs on this superb album include The Weight, This Wheel’s On Fire, Tears of Rage and To Kingdom Come and the cover art was painted by Bob Dylan (the ‘Big Pink’ being the upstate New York house where The Band wrote the songs.
Bob Clearmountain has created the new stereo mix (which features on the CD and double vinyl) from the original four-track analog masters. The CD features six outtakes/alternates (including an unreleased A Cappella version of I Shall Be Released) and the seven-inch included is a recreation the original 1968 single for The Weight and I Shall Be Released.
