Art of Doubt was recorded at Metric’s Giant Studio in Toronto, and saw producer Justin Meldal-Johnsen (M83, Nine Inch Nails) step in for guitarist Jimmy Shaw, the co-producer of the band’s last three albums. “Justin was just what we needed in a producer for this album,” Shaw said in a press release. “He really saw every band member eye to eye and was able to capture what we each do best. It was something I realized I couldn’t do at this stage, having been in the band for so long. We were finally able to focus on just playing again, as we did at the start. Making this album brought us together in a way we hadn’t been for quite some time and I think you can hear it in the music.”

Love, sadness, saudade and joy, the city of Lisbon, our Portuguese soul, all of these intense stories are sung and told in the earnest and fadista way that distinguish Sara Correia’s voice. In the future, she hopes to be able to keep doing what she loves most: to sing, and to share her songs with the world. “I am utterly happy when I sing. To be able to work alongside people I admire and whom I learn from everyday is an honor and a blessing. I hope to live many experiences beside outstanding professionals and all of the musicians and audiences I’ll get to share my life with.”

Cedric Burnside is the grandson of North Mississippi blues legend R.L. Burnside. R.L.’s work can be described as wild blues, with manic drums and beautifully random guitar outbursts. Cedric, who played drums for his grandfather, has a similar sensibility.
The best blues songs have an element of danger like they’re going to fall apart at any moment. It’s a feeling not unlike building Ikea furniture while drunk. Cedric Burnside’s Benton County Relic taps into that invigorating feeling of falling, perfectly slowing the beat of songs to create huge grooves and using raw guitar to accentuate the melodies.
