Μπορεί να κυκλοφόρησε το 2015, από τις εκδόσεις Πόλις, όμως Τα Παιδιά της Δικτατορίας ήταν, είναι και παραμένει το καλύτερο βιβλίο που τυπώθηκε τα τελευταία χρόνια (ανάμεσα σε άλλα ανάλογα ή περίπου ανάλογα) και που αναφέρεται φυσικά (και) στη Γενιά του Πολυτεχνείου. Λέμε «και», επειδή το βιβλίο πραγματεύεται, βασικά, τα ελληνικά long sixties (ένα διάστημα, που ξεκινά από τις αρχές του ’60 καταλήγοντας χρονικά λίγο μετά την πτώση της δικτατορίας). Το βιβλίο είναι γραμμένο από τον Κωστή Κορνέτη (με σπουδές Ιστορίας και Πολιτικών Επιστημών – εργάζεται για το Πανεπιστήμιο Carlos III της Μαδρίτης) και περιλαμβάνει Εισαγωγή, πέντε πολυσέλιδα Κεφάλαια, Επίλογο, καθώς και εκτενή Βιβλιογραφία, που λειτουργεί και σαν πυξίδα για εκτενέστερο και ειδικότερο διάβασμα (και ψάξιμο).

Να πούμε από την αρχή κάτι πολύ βασικό. Πως ο Κορνέτης δεν τάσσεται, εννοείται, με τη σύγχρονη ακροκεντρώα / νεοφιλελεύθερη αντίληψη (ούτε με τη διαχρονική ακροδεξιά φυσικά) κατασυκοφάντησης του «Πολυτεχνείου», γι’ αυτό, νωρίς-νωρίς στο βιβλίο του, επιχειρεί να διαλύσει τα σχετικά νέφη, σημειώνοντας:

«Αυτή την αναθεωρητική οπτική (σ.σ. της αμφισβήτησης του Πολυτεχνείου) τη θεωρώ όχι απλώς εξαιρετικά άστοχη και ανιστορική, αλλά και επικίνδυνη, αφού τείνει να μετατρέψει το Πολυτεχνείο, από ένα γενικά αποδεκτό “τόπο μνήμης” μετά τη Χούντα σε διχαστικό μνημονικό γεγονός».

Πάνω σ’ αυτή τη βάση είναι δομημένο το βιβλίο του Τα Παιδιά της Δικτατορίας και γι’ αυτό θα τα πούμε αναλυτικά στη συνέχεια.

Garage rock legend Holly Golightly began her reign in the early ’90s and spent the following decades churning out countless volumes of searing, attitude-heavy ’60s-modeled big-beat rock & roll. Even the 11 years between 2004’s Slowly But Surely and 2015’s Slowtown Now! weren’t signs of Golightly slowing down, as the break from solo albums was spent producing upwards of eight albums with her side project Holly Golightly & the Brokeoffs. Her 11th proper solo album, Do the Get Along, doesn’t differ greatly from any other entry in her massive catalog, but that doesn’t suggest stagnation in any way. With one of the more distinctive and expressive voices in garage rock, Golightly sounds every bit at the top of her game as she has on the majority of her albums, leaning even harder on the smoky atmospheres and simmering scorned-lover narratives that mark some of her most electrifying work. Joined by longtime drummer Bruce Brand as well as a slick band of backing players, Golightly slinks through slow burners like “I’m Your Loss,” ominous rockers like “Obstacles,” and Kinks-y fuzz fests like “Pretty Clean.” Some of Do the Get Along’s best moments arrive with the album’s handful of cover songs. Golightly’s multi-tracked vocal harmonies transform the Knight Bros.’ soul stomper “Love (Can’t You Hear Me)” into a menacing girl group redux, and her reading of Steve King’s “Satan Is Her Name” (pronouns switched here to “Satan Is His Name”) reshapes the somewhat schmaltzy tune into something eerie and almost frightening. Throughout Do the Get Along, Golightly demonstrates her knack for restraint and effortless charisma. She breaks no new ground over these 12 songs, but in the case of an artist with this much mastery of her work, more of the same is happily welcomed.

Lachlan Denton’s single ‘Close’ was an intimate introduction to his solo work. His new debut album Two Months In Ben Woolley’s Room gives us a broader spectrum of his musical capabilities and inclinations. His bright guitar and tender love ballads are reminiscent of influences like The Go-Betweens, Teenage Fanclub and Velvet Crush. On the album Denton shares a candid reflection after ending an eight-year relationship. After the breakup, Denton sublet a friend’s apartment, Ben Woolley. While Woolley was away on tour Denton created his debut album in his friend’s tiny room, as seen on the album cover.

Although I’m sure the breakup affected Denton, he did not create the typical breakup album. After the breakup Denton met someone new, and he was “totally smitten and had a lot of time to drink and write love songs.” Instead this album is full of love songs, but love songs where melancholy lies just beneath the surface. There are other songs that are much overtly sombre. On ‘Drinking’ Denton sings “you’re the only one who can stop me from drowning myself tonight, darling I need your advice.” Although these are love songs, we must place them in context. These love songs are about about opening yourself up to being vulnerable again, letting go of the fear of possible rejection, letting someone new into your life.
