Cliff Richard returns with his first album of new material in 14 years, produced by Rupert Christie, the album draws on new songwriting talent as well as teaming up with some of his biggest hit writers.

Recorded at Miami’s Criteria Studios in 2018, the album not only features title track ‘Rise Up’ written by Devil Woman hitmaker Terry Britten and his co-writer Graham Lyle but other new up-tempo contemporary songs including ‘Reborn’ written by Chris Eaton (Saviour’s Day).

Sir Cliff reunites with Olivia Newton-John for the first time in 23 years on ‘Everybody’s Someone’ the album also features four newly recorded tracks with The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra: Devil Woman, The Minute You’re Gone, Miss You Nights and Some People.

The Lioness is the first Jason Molina project to fully turn away from the battlefield folk and deconstructed Americana of earlier Songs: Ohia recordings. At the dawn of the 21st century, the album felt modern. It aligned Molina with a new set of peers – Low, Gastr del Sol, Red House Painters and, most importantly, the influential Scottish band Arab Strap, whose producer and members were crucial in the creation of The Lioness. The avant-garde tones and arrangements of Arab Strap are absorbed here into Molina’s songwriting to create what would become, for many acolytes, the archetypal Songs: Ohia sound. Love & Work: The Lioness Sessions, the box set reissue, will serve as the seminal log of the era, complete with lost songs, photos, drawings, and essays from those who knew Molina best.

Calexico’s classic album “The Black Light“ turns 20 this year! This limited edition celebratory anniversary edition includes all new artwork by Victor Gastelum, extensive liner notes, and 11 bonus tracks. What was surprising about The Black Light (and what set its architects apart from their indie rock peers) was the album’s unusual willingness to wade into the rapids of American and Mexican culture, fully immersing itself midstream. The Butterfly Effect, Jah Wobble’s follow up to his recent and acclaimed Dream World album, features a collection of eight tracks that lyrically tackle (sometimes with tongue in cheek) subjects such as the nature of mind, the post modern age and what it is to be human. The album was recorded at Inner Space Studios in London. All of the songs collected here originated from poems that were written by the legendary bass player around the time of the global financial crash of ten years ago. ‘The Iron Lady Got Rust’ in particular looks back to a time which saw Thatcher impose UK banking deregulation and the free market political and economic attitudes that led to the crash and subsequently to modern day austerity and Brexit. ‘The Butterfly Effect’ examines the interdependence of all phenomena and names checks amongst others; Ginger Rogers, Fred Astaire, Bjork, Joe Strummer, Stephen Spielberg, Casanova and Ringo Starr and ‘I Love Your Accent’ is Wobble’s humorous look at returning to his birthplace in London’s East End and staying a night in the area’s first five-star hotel in Bethnal Green. The album is a heartfelt collection of words and sounds that captures the musical craft and lyrical expertise synonymous with a man that’s enjoyed a career spanning over forty years. Although very much a solo recording, the album also features his long time Invaders Of The Heart band mates; Marc Layton-Bennett (percussion and drums), George King (keyboards), Sean Corby (trumpet and flugelhorn) and Martin Chung (guitar).

The world lost one of the most important, influential, and iconic voices of all time this summer when Aretha Franklin passed away. To celebrate this legendary artist’s irreplaceable musical legacy, a new collection will be released that features her biggest hits with Atlantic Records as they were originally recorded, paired with stunning symphonic versions with orchestration from The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Also featured on this new compilation are two unreleased recordings: a moving version of “Silent Night”.

The first disc of the collection is dedicated to the songs that made Aretha a global household name, including six #1 R&B hits: “I Never Loved A Man (The Way I Love You),” “Baby I Love You,” “Chain Of Fools,” “Think,” “Don’t Play That Song,” and “Respect,” which also topped the Pop chart on its way to becoming her signature song. The song selection also highlights Aretha’s uncanny ability to make other artists’ songs her own with covers of “The Weight,” “Bridge Over Troubled Water,” and “I Say A Little Prayer.”

Two songs from her 2008 album This Christmas close out the first disc, including “Christmas Ain’t Christmas (Without The One You Love).” The other track is an unreleased “Solo Piano Version” of “Silent Night” that features only Franklin’s vocals accompanied by piano. The combination is magical and a poignant reminder that the Queen of Soul will never be replaced.

The second disc includes all 14 songs from A Brand New Me: Aretha Franklin with The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, an album released last year that paired classic vocals tracks from some of Aretha’s best-known songs with new arrangements performed by The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. The songs retain their original soul as the orchestral backing casts them in an entirely new light.

Among the other standouts are powerful versions of classics like “People Get Ready,” “You’re All I Need To Get By,” “Son Of A Preacher Man” and the R&B chart-topper “Angel.”
