In September 2017, details for the 2018 Instant Fan Club offering were posted and mentioned among other items, the inclusion of two Dial-A-Song albums: “A Disc of Dial-A-Song 2015 Rarities” and “A Disc of All Dial-A-Song 2018 Songs”. As 2018 progressed and much of the year’s Dial-A-Song material ended up consisting of songs from two other 2018 album releases — I Like Fun and The Escape Team — the band decided to consolidate the planned 2015 and 2018 Dial-A-Song discs into this album and its bonus disc (included with first editions of the album).

The album’s title is from a lyric in “Mrs. Bluebeard” — “I want to say I learned something valuable today / Alas my murdered remains are incapable of learning anything” — and was originally the working title for the album I Like Fun, where that song appeared.
