Eric Burdon – The Eric Burdon Story [Deluxe Edition] (2004)
FLAC | 808 MB | LINKS
This double-disc set goes into Eric Burdon’s entire recorded oeuvre from his time with the Animals and War to his solo material, and pulls out the stops. While it’s truly a shame that some of the growling blues-rock classics from recordings like Animalism (“Smokestack Lightning” should have been here) are missing, at least “I’m Crying” is here. More important than the Animals material, the later years are given a solid lion’s share, without the excessive baggage of the band. This is a positive simply because this anthology showcases just what a stirring, rousing, utterly gifted singer Burdon is, despite his material, whether it’s his read of Louisiana Red’s “Sweet Blood Call” or the Elmore James classic “It Hurts Me Too,” which goes on for over ten minutes. Thankfully, many of the classics are here as well, from “Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood” and “We Gotta Get Out of This Place” to his near-definitive read of J.D. Loudermilk’s “Tobacco Road.”

The Sidekicks – Happiness Hours (2018)
320 kbps | 90 MB | LINKS
Happiness Hours was produced, engineered, and mixed by John Agnello. The twelve tracks that eventually found a home on the album show a band in full control of their powers. Each song presents its own little narrative microcosm and contained universe, all contributing to a record that, as vocalist/guitarist Steve Ciolek describes it, “feels like a potential collection of singles, every one of them a pop song, every one of them meant to make you feel good.” For The Sidekicks, despite their storied pop-punk past, the band’s main hope is that people can always expect something new, songs filled not just with loud guitars, but also things like trumpets, pianos, flugelhorns, and the occasional tambourine.
Formed in Cleveland in 2006, The Sidekicks made their debut with 2007’s So Long, Soggy Dog and followed the album with 2009’s similarly punk-influenced Weight of Air. The band embodied a more melodic sound with 2012’s Awkward Breeds, and fully showcased their tightly honed pop sensibilities on Runners in the Nerved World. Produced by Phil Ek (The Black Angels, The Walkmen), <>Runners in the Nerved World drew praise from the likes of Pitchfork (who noted that the album “hearkens back to the widescreen indie rock of Built to Spill, the Shins, and Band of Horses”).
Juliana Hatfield – Weird (2019)
320 kbps | 86 MB | LINKS
For most musicians and record labels, OK’ing two records from the same artist with less than 12 months in between them might seem weird. In the case of Juliana Hatfield, life is weird anyways, so screw it.
Following her 2018 record Juliana Hatfield Sings Olivia Newton-John and 2017’s original album Pussycat, the Boston rock veteran will release her newest opus Weird in early 2019. The album will feature 11 new tracks and officially drops on January 19 via American Laundromat Records.
“I often feel cut-off from other people, from my feelings, from technology, from popular culture. I feel weird, I feel like I’m dreaming my life and that I am going to wake up some day,” Hatfield tells Stereogum. “I wanted to make an album about the contentment of being inside an apartment and living inside a very small radius.”

Pegi Young And The Survivors – Raw (2017)
320 kbps | 106 MB | LINKS
Pegi Young’ s powerful new album, Raw, gets right to the point. Opening cut “Why” kicks off with Young’ s impassioned alto, demanding, “Why’d you have to ruin my life? Why’d you have to be so mean?” Over the soulful Americana rock of her band the Survivors – led by legendary keyboardist/songwriter Spooner Oldham – Young taps into a surprisingly primal force. There’ s a reason for that. Young wrote most of Raw in the wake of her 2014 separation and divorce from Neil Young, to whom she’d been married thirty-six years. Over the decades, the pair had raised a family, made music together, and worked to support northern California’ s Bridge School for severely disabled children. Pegi founded the Bridge School in 1986 after being unable to find the right kind of care for their son, Ben, who has cerebral palsy. “[Raw] was very cathartic for me,” Young says. “What happened was real, but I also look at this record as having a universal quality to it. I’ m certainly not the only one to go through a late-in-life divorce, and I’m not going to be the last. But in my case, it was so painful because we’d shared so many years building a life, together, weathering it’s ups and downs. Yet the songs- most co-written with guitarist Kelvin Holly and Oldham – aren’ t all expressions of anger. The first track released from the album “Too Little Too Late,” a raw and poetic psalm of regret, the truth-tellin’ “Gave My Best toYou” and a rockin’ update on “These Boots are Made for Walkin'” convey resilience and sass. A gorgeous, stripped-down version of Don Henley’ s “The Heart of the Matter” explores the grace of forgiveness. As a whole, the album is a journey from shock, to rage, to sadness, to strength, but not necessarily in that order. Young sees Raw as the soundtrack to the seven stages of grief. “It’ s not a linear process,” she says. “You bounce back and forth. And each song could be sung by either party.”

Mark Deutrom – The Blue Bird (2019)
320 kbps | 124 MB | LINKS
Mark Deutrom (ex-MELVINS) returns with his new album ‘The Blue Bird’, the first work under the Texan’s own name in almost six years. A full album listening experience, it explores melody, space, nuance, and volume as it flows from track-to-track like a prismatic audio storybook. From the classic unconventional heaviness of “The Happiness Machine”, to the fever dream haziness of the “Somnambulist”, through the moody “They Have Won”, Deutrom moves from strength to strength without ever letting his foot off the gas. ‘The Blue Bird’ is rock grandeur, oozing poise and purpose, and has all the Deutrom hallmarks to be an abiding piece of heavy rock history.
