Josh Ritter is the debut album by American singer-songwriter Josh Ritter. It was self-released in 1999. Humorous folk-inspired songs such as "Hotel Song" and "Stuck to You" evoke comparisons to John Prine, while ballads "Letter from Omaha" and "Leaves and Kings" seem inspired by Leonard Cohen and Bob Dylan, whom Ritter frequently cites as influences. Three versions of this album have been pressed; a digipak in 1999, followed by a jewel case package in 1999, then a digipak again in 2008. Superficially the 1999 and 2008 digipaks are similar, but the interior artwork and disc art differ among all three versions.

Πέρυσι (2018), στην αρχή της χρονιάς, είχε κυκλοφορήσει η «Αιώνια Μέθη» [Μετρονόμος] των Γιώργου Καγιαλίκου - Δημήτρη Λέντζου και να τώρα, στο τέλος της χρονιάς, ένα καινούριο άλμπουμ των δύο δημιουργών έρχεται να προστεθεί στη δισκογραφία αμφοτέρων. Έχει τίτλο «Μισοφέγγαρο Κυδώνι»[Μετρονόμος] και περιλαμβάνει εννέα τραγούδια (ωραίος αριθμός – ούτε δεκατρία, ούτε δεκαπέντε…) σε μουσικές Καγιαλίκου, στίχους Λέντζου και ερμηνείες από την Ιφιγένεια Κορολόγου και τον Γιώργο Φλωράκη.

Έχω τη γνώμη πως το ντούο αυτό (Καγιαλίκος-Λέντζος) είναι ένα από τα ελάχιστα που μπορούν να δώσουν σύγχρονη πνοή σ’ αυτό που λέμε «έντεχνο τραγούδι» – έτσι όπως «σωστά» το εννοούν, όσοι το εννοούν, αναφορικά με τα χρόνια του ’60 και του ’70 (συνθέτης-στιχουργός-ερμηνευτής/ές) και όχι έτσι όπως κατέληξε να αφορά στο τραγούδι των τραγουδοποιών (που είναι κάτι άλλο – εγώ, τέλος πάντων, σαν κάτι άλλο θέλω να το βλέπω). Σ’ αυτό λοιπόν τον τομέα, σ’ αυτή την κατεύθυνση του τραγουδιού μας, τα άλμπουμ των Καγιαλίκου-Λέντζου μπορεί να αποτελέσουν πρότυπο.

Διαθέτουν, κατ’ αρχάς, έναν προικισμένο μελωδό. Ο Καγιαλίκος δεν είναι καινούριος στη δισκογραφία (θυμάμαι να γράφω γι’ αυτόν από τα χρόνια του Jazz & Tζαζ), έχοντας δώσει έως τώρα εξαίρετα δείγματα του ταλέντου του. Έπειτα, έχουμε να κάνουμε με τον κορυφαίο σύγχρονο στιχουργό του έντεχνου, τον Δημήτρη Λέντζο, ο οποίος συχνά γράφει με την… γλαφυρή αμεσότητα του Λευτέρη Παπαδόπουλου, αλλά και με το βαθύ στοχασμό του Μάνου Ελευθερίου ή του Νίκου Γκάτσου. Ο συνδυασμός αυτών των δύο τάσεων, στον έντεχνο-λαϊκό στίχο, που είναι κάτι άλλο, κάτι πρωτότυπο, δίνει στη στιχουργική του Λέντζου μιαν αυθυπαρξία.

Τώρα, για να προκύψουν αγέρωχα («έντεχνα») τραγούδια, το μόνον που απαιτείται (πέραν της ενορχήστρωσης, που, εν προκειμένω, είναι αυτή που πρέπει) είναι οι φωνές. Και οι δύο φωνές που ακούγονται εδώ (Κορολόγου, Φλωράκης) είναι, και αυτές, τακτικότατες στους ρόλους τους.

Το αποτέλεσμα όλων αυτών είναι να προκύπτει ένα άλμπουμ, ωραίο στο είδος του, που κυλάει με θαυμαστήν ενότητα, δίχως κομμάτια «κράχτες», και με τον πάντα απαραίτητο σεβασμό προς την ιστορία του τραγουδιού μας.

From a distance Lyttelton guitar mavericks Delaney Davidson and Bruce Russell can seem like they’re poles apart – Davidson is widely regarded as one of Aotearoa’s premier songwriters whose influence extends to such household names as Marlon Williams and Aldous Harding, while Russell’s trailblazing work with his band The Dead C and underground imprints Xpressway and Corpus Hermeticum shifted the way an entire generation of listeners thought about “noise” on an international scale. In an unforeseeable yet ear-pleasing twist, these two sonic titans have come together for a new album named One Hand Loose, showcasing their shared appreciation for 20th Century US rockabilly pioneer Charlie Feathers.

Recorded to old-school TEAC four-track by ‘Shaking’ Luke Wood and released on his Ilam Press Records imprint, this album harkens back not just to the birth of rock’n roll, but also to the birth of post-punk independent-press legendary-ness in Otautahi/Christchurch. Equal parts concert and Irish wake, Tampa 2008 celebrates the life of founding E Street Band member Dan Federici, who passed away five days earlier.
