Ilusión, produced by Gabriel Roth, is her fifth, and a nearly perfect showcase for her impossible-to- pigeonhole talents as a songwriter and as a singer.While she has publicly classified her own music as “Spanglish folk soul” it seems merely a label to placate the press. She probably doesn’t think about it. Moreno is equally versed in classic blues and jazz, sophisticated pop, country, and various Anglo and Latin American folk styles. Opener and first single “Se Apagó” (reprised in English as the bookend “Love Is Gone” with guest Nashville R&B singer Jonny P) is modern retro-soul through a lens that had Stax gazing at Motown. Her throaty delivery digs right into the bone of her lyric to expose its naked emotion. Contrast it to “Nobody to Love,” a cut-time jazz-blues waltz that reveals the influence of Mamie Smith, with swirling B-3 and reverbed guitars. “Pale Blue Lights,” with its upright piano and cut-time drum shuffle, is a bluesy, late-night saloon song while “Maledicion Benedicion” is a hot, country two-step delivered in Spanish with cracking snares and wrangling electric guitars. “Fronteras” (“Borders”) is a ranchera disguised as a countrified folk song; it, and the glorious ¾ time, string-laden vintage (à la the ’60s) Latin pop anthem to love that is “Si Pudiera” (“If I Could”) were originally written in French and translated into Spanish by Arjona. “Estaré” offers a Muscle Shoals-esque upright piano and B-3 wedding Southern soul to early rock & roll and gospel. Moreno’s contralto soars over the top as the rhythm section builds an unshakeable base underneath. The title track, with its simple mariachi guitar line, weaves a humorous, surrealist lyric into an early 20th century swing-blues melody.
Ilusión is Moreno’s best offering to date and its colorful array of styles are anything but what its title proclaims. It is a magnificent illustration of her fully developed skills as one of the more sophisticated singer/songwriters in our midst.

The Dacios formed in 2005. Their first release, Monkey’s Blood in 2009 was a critical success.
The current Dacios line up sees the return of original member Robert ‘Pops’ Johnson on drums, the introduction of noise guitar maestro Bonnie Mercer and the reunion of bass player Mindy Mapp, with Bean and Linda J who formerly all played together in Little Ugly Girls. In the past six months The Dacios have been playing around town, giving people a sample of their new material and garnering rave reviews. They are set to release their long awaited second album; ‘BEYOND THE BOTTOM HOUR’.

Jesse Aycock is a singer / songwriter from Tulsa, OK that has built a strong fan base both nationally and internationally. Highly-respected by his peers as well, Neal Casal, guitarist for Chris Robinson Brotherhood and Ryan Adams & The Cardinals recently had this to say, “I’ve known Jesse a long time. He’s great. He’s one of those guys who really deserves more recognition.”
His music is sweeping with beautiful melodies, old school tones, and lyrical depth that is remarkable for someone his age. His style touches on everything from traditional folk, psychedelic, country, and early rock, which makes him appealing to a wide audience. Jesse’s latest release, “Flowers & Wounds”, was recorded at the legendary Church Studio in Tulsa, OK, owned in the 70’s by Leon Russell and later by Steve Ripley of the Tractors through the 90’s and early 00’s. For the sessions, he brought in Neal Casal (Chris Robinson Brotherhood, Ryan Adams) on guitar and George Sluppick (Chris
Robinson Brotherhood, JJ Grey & Mofro, The City Champs) on drums, as well as Eric Arndt on bass. Other contributors include David Hidalgo (Los Lobos) on guitar, Tulsa legend Jimmy Karstein on percussion, and Al Gamble (The Bo-Keys, The City Champs) on B3.
Jesse will be on the road playing lap steel/pedal steel/guitar through early 2014 with Paul Benjaman Band, The Secret Sisters, and Hard Working Americans (Neal Casal, Dave Schools, Todd Snider, Duane Trucks, Chad Staehly). Look for Jesse out on his own tour throughout 2014.

On the proudly defiant "Blue Ridge Blood," singer-songwriter Chelle Rose puts her tough Appalachian roots on full display and even slyly acknowledges the dark artistic persona she has cultivated on her albums. "Couldn’t get away from it if I tried, Blue Ridge blood," she shrugs.
In-demand producer-songwriter Buddy Miller joins Rose on the song, adding low harmonies to Rose’s throaty growl over austere percussion and Sergio Webb’s lyrical dobro flourishes. "Blue Ridge Blood" is the title track from the East Tennessee native’s forthcoming new album, which – like 2012’s acclaimed The Ghosts of Browder Holler – will feature Rose exploring the troubled branches of her family and home region, but never apologizing for her upbringing.
"I wrote the first line of ‘Blue Ridge Blood’ after an interviewer jokingly mentioned that my personality didn’t match my dark writing and my images looked kind of mean," says Rose. "The second verse was inspired from a well-meaning letter mailed from Los Angeles to East Tennessee from my biological mother when I was a child. She said if I didn’t change the way I talk, I’d never make it in this world. This song pays tribute to my heritage and staying true to one’s self.”

Chances is an album by Canadian singer-songwriter Jill Barber, released October 14, 2008 on Outside Music.
The album was noted for marking a departure from Barber’s established folk-pop style. On Chances, Barber instead works within a jazz style which was compared by critics to Doris Day and Peggy Lee.
The album was recorded primarily at Blue Rodeo’s Woodshed Studios in Toronto, with some string and horn arrangements recorded at the Glenn Gould Studio. Three of the songs were cowritten with Ron Sexsmith, and the album was produced by Toronto singer-songwriter Les Cooper.
The album was named as a longlisted nominee for the 2009 Polaris Music Prize on June 15, 2009.
