MΑΚΗΣ ΑΜΠΛΙΑΝΙΤΗΣ ουρανός
Τον κιθαρίστα Μάκη Αμπλιανίτη τον θυμάμαι από πολύ παλιά, από τις πρώτες εγγραφές του στη μικρή εταιρεία Θέσις, πριν 20 χρόνια. Επίσης τον έχω δει live (παλαιότερα), ενώ έχω ακούσει και όλα τα άλμπουμ του (έτσι νομίζω): το “Bahar” στη Libra από το 2000, το “Bahar/ Live under the sky” επίσης στη Libra από το 2004, το “Kismet” ξανά στη Libra το 2008 (δεν ξέρω αν υπάρχει κάτι ακόμη).

Ο Αμπλιανίτης είναι ένας αφηγηματικός συνθέτης-κιθαρίστας, που κινείται, χοντρικά θα το πω, στο χώρο της ethnic-jazz. Είναι επηρεασμένος δηλαδή και από την jazz και από τις μουσικές του κόσμου (και από την ελληνική μουσική φυσικά – παραδοσιακή, έντεχνη κ.λπ.), με τις προτάσεις του να κατατείνουν και προς ένα κάπως ευρωπαϊκό ανάλογο, με την ωραία έννοια light, που θα μπορούσε να βρίσκει πεδία ανάπτυξης σε… παριζιάνικα στέκια, τύπου Maxim’s και τ’ ανάλογα (ανιχνεύεται δηλαδή κι ένα έντεχνο chill-out στοιχείο).
Θέλω να πω πως οι συνθέσεις του και στο πιο πρόσφατο CD του, το “Uranos” [MAKAM Music/ MLK, 2017], έχουν τη χάρη και την επιμελημένη ζωντάνια εκείνων των ήχων, που είναι από πάσης απόψεως μελετημένοι και επεξεργασμένοι, ώστε να μπορούν να «ταξιδεύουν» χωρίς ζόρια τούς ακροατές τους. Χωρίς αυτοσχεδιαστικές αιχμές, με εκπληκτική, θα τη χαρακτήριζα ώρες-ώρες, οικονομία του χρόνου, των μέτρων, των σόλι κ.λπ., οι συνθέσεις του Αμπλιανίτη κυλάνε σαν γάργαρο νεράκι (μένω σ’ αυτή την τυπική, που τα λέει όλα όμως, παρομοίωση), δημιουργώντας, πολύ συχνά, εντυπωσιακής ομορφιάς, φιλικά, ηχητικά περιβάλλοντα.
Πρώτα οι συνθέσεις, λοιπόν, στον «Ουρανό», όμως δεν μπορεί κανείς να παραβλέψει και τη συμβολή τόσων και τόσων αρίστων μουσικών, που προσφέρουν εδώ τον καλύτερο εαυτό τους. Πόσα ονόματα να γράψουμε; Ας τα γράψουμε όλα. Ο βιολιστής Γιώργος Μαγκλάρας, οι τραγουδιστές Παντελής Θαλασσινός και Βαγγέλης Γερμανός, ο πνευστός Tigran Sargsyan, οι περκασιονίστες Βαγγέλης Καρίπης και Γιάννης Παπαγιαννούλης, ο κλαρινίστας Μάνος Αχαλινωτόπουλος και τέλος ο χειριστής τού νέι Νίκος Παραουλάκης.
Ο «Ουρανός» είναι ένα θαυμάσιο άλμπουμ ορχηστικής (βασικά) ethnic-jazz, που έχει τον τρόπο, τη δύναμη, πείτε το όπως θέλετε, να σε κάνει να αισθάνεσαι πλήρης. Κι αυτό είναι μετρήσιμο.

New York African Film Festival Emphasizes Activism in This Year’s Showcase
The arts in the United States have been experiencing quite precarious times with the looming threat of reduced federal funding. However, this hasn’t stopped organizations from continuing to display ambitious and defiant work by courageous artists who are aptly reacting to the times. This year’s 24th New York African Film Festival (NYAFF) presented by the Film Society of Lincoln Center and African Film Festival is no different, with the theme “The Peoples’ Revolution.” The NYAFF says this theme “taps into the pulse of protest and the calls for change bubbling up throughout the peoples of the world, a reform charge championed by a new wave of artists throughout Africa and its diaspora.”
This year’s film festival gives space to young and talented filmmakers from Africa and the diaspora sharing both fictional stories and plots based on real events and people. Kicking off the festival on May 3 at the Walter Reade Theater is Vaya, directed by South African director Akin Omotoso, who won the Special Jury Prize for Outstanding Film at the 2016 Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF) and the Best Screenplay prize at Africa Magic Viewer’s Choice Awards in 2017. Also in the mix is the first animated documentary from Libya. NYAFF lasts from May 3-9 but the screenings continue at other New York institutions including Lehman College in the Bronx, Maysles Cinema in Harlem and end at the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAMcinématek) in conjunction with the popular dance and music festival DanceAfrica.
