The word solastalgia refers to feeling distress or sadness when the environment around you changes. And a lot has changed for veteran singer/songwriter Missy Higgins in the six years since her last album of original music. The artist confronts memories, relationships and social turmoil, while toying with new sounds that push her musical boundaries. “Cemetery”, a lightly thumping electro-pop track, paradoxically sings of feeling alive while sneaking into a cemetery; “49 Candles” is a stirring ode to those lost in the 2016 Orlando shooting; and “The Old Star” concludes the album with surprisingly deep bass and compelling electronic vocals.

Un an après son premier essai solo réussi, Koolenn reprend Borowsky pour certaines musiques, mais aussi deux de ses potes ex-Dynastie Crisis (Lhommet et Mercier) et part enregistrer le tout à Los Angeles.

Bill Payne et Albert Lee sont crédités pour ce nouvel album mais c'est surtout le groupe "Dr Strut" que l'on entend et qui donne une coloration plus funky à ce disque.

Koolenn voulait tourner en France avec ce groupe qui préfèrera, à juste titre sans doute et à son grand désespoir, se faire engager par Diana Ross.

Ce deuxième disque est nettement moins bon que le premier, malgré quelques passages réjouissants (personnellement, je préfère "Les P'tites Grenouilles" que "Les Femmes Des Autres" !). Les paroles sont moins inspirées (et parfois un peu vulgaires...), tout comme l'idée du rond central, centré sur l'entrejambe de la demoiselle...

Le disque sera un joli flop ("j'en donne plus que j'en vends", dit Koolenn) et précipitera la fin de son contrat chez Carrère et la fin de sa carrière musicale en solo.

Tout partira de travers pour Koolenn en 1982, avec la mort de Joelle et la rupture professionnelle avec Dick Rivers. Il n'émergera (un peu) qu'au milieu des années 90 avec le regain d'intérêt pour Il Etait Une Fois et les rééditions.

Η σχέση του πιανίστα Danny Green με τα έγχορδα ξεκίνησε από το προηγούμενο CD του, το “Altered Narratives” [ΟΑ2 Records, 2016], για το οποίο είχαμε γράψει τα σχετικά κι εδώ στο δισκορυχείον. Σ’ εκείνο το άλμπουμ ο Greenείχε χρησιμοποιήσει έγχορδα σε τρία tracks. Τώρα, στο “One Day It Will” [ΟΑ2 Records, 2018], η σχέση εκείνη επεκτείνεται, αποκτώντας πιο μόνιμα ή μάλλον μόνιμα χαρακτηριστικά.

Ο Danny Greenείναι ένας πιανίστας σφόδρα επηρεασμένος από τον Bill Evans και κάποιους δίσκους τού Evans, όπως τα “Bill Evans Piano and Orchestra / The V.I.P.s Theme” [MGM, 1963] και “Bill Evans Trio with Symphony Orchestra” [Verve, 1966] για παράδειγμα, θα πρέπει να τους έχει λιώσει στο πικάπ του. Φυσικά, η επιρροή και η αναφορά είναι μόνον τέτοιες, γιατί ο Greenπαραμένει πάντα ένας ταλαντούχος συνθέτης, με άποψη και με όραμα σε σχέση μ’ αυτό που παραδίδει. Κι εδώ, στο “One Day Ιt Will”, το όραμά του συμπυκνώνεται θα έλεγα στη λέξη «ομορφιά». Στην παραγωγή μιας μουσικής, δηλαδή, που να δρα εξυμνητικά προς το ωραίο (είτε το κλασικό, είτε το ρομαντικό, είτε το σύγχρονο).

Συμπαραστάτες τού Green σ’ αυτό το ταξίδι είναι οι μόνιμοι συνεργάτες του (από δεκαετίας), ο μπασίστας Justin Grinnellκαι ο ντράμερ Julien Cantelm, ενώ δίπλα σ’ αυτούς, στο ίδιο βάθρο, είναι τοποθετημένο και το κουαρτέτο εγχόρδων, δηλαδή οι Kate Hatmakerβιολί, Igor Pandurski βιολί, Travis Maril βιόλα και Erica Erenyi τσέλο. Με τις ηχογραφήσεις να έχουν γίνει στις πόλεις της Καλιφόρνιας Glendaleκαι Encinitas, το προηγούμενο καλοκαίρι, το “One Day Ιt Will” είναι ένα τζαζ άλμπουμ ξεχωριστό – διαφορετικό απ’ όσα συνήθως φτάνουν στ’ αυτιά μας/σας σήμερα. Και τούτο, επειδή τα έγχορδα, σε μόνιμη βάση και όχι περιστασιακώς, του δίνουν ένα άλλο χρώμα.

Πέρα από τα παιξίματα, τις τεχνικές που προτιμούνται για τις διάφορες φάσεις των συνθέσεων (το πιτσικάτο π.χ.), εκείνο που κυριαρχεί στο άλμπουμ του Danny Greenείναι οι συνθέσεις αυτές καθ’ αυτές. Εκεί γίνεται η πολλή δουλειά κι εκεί, επάνω, συμπυκνώνονται όλες οι αρετές τού συνθέτη και των οργανοπαικτών. Έτσι, άλλα tracks ακούγονται πιο… χαμηλών τόνων, πιο μελαγχολικά και άλλα πιο ευφρόσυνα και χορευτικά, δείχνοντας πως ο Greenέχει ταυτοχρόνως στο… αίμα του τόσο το κλασικό swinging, όσο και τα πιο αργά blues, τις μπαλάντες και τους ήχους των λειτουργιών (gospel), προσαρμόζοντάς τα κάθε φορά στα δικά του μέτρα αναλόγως με το ζητούμενο. Και είναι αυτές ακριβώς οι προσαρμογές, που πιάνουν κορυφή στα “Snowy day in Boston” και “Lemon avenue”.

Gary P. Nunn is a Texas singer/songwriter whose career began in the 1960s with the Fabulous Sparkles before he settled in with the Lost Gonzo Band the following decade. Today he is a Texas institution, thanks to his frequent appearances, and songs that hail the state’s culture and people. He got a taste of his future career in the seventh grade, when he joined a garage band. Later, he continued his education at South Plains College and Texas Tech University, gigging on weekends in West Texas. By 1968, he was a pharmacy major at the University of Texas, located in Austin. The city spawned country outlaws like Willie Nelson, who settled there in 1972, as did Jerry Jeff Walker and Michael Martin Murphy. He ended up playing bass for all three musicians at one point. By the 1970s, Nunn was backing Walker with the Lost Gonzo Band. His songwriting skills flourished during this time. Artists who recorded his tunes include David Allan Coe and Roseanne Cash, as well as Murphy, Nelson, and Walker. His skills paid off with platinum and gold records. Walker, Nunn, and the Lost Gonzo Band put out six albums through MCA Records over the course of four years.

Esoteric Recordings are proud to announce the release of an official limited edition super deluxe boxed set celebrating fifty years of the legendary Procol Harum; Still There’ll Be More. This five disc set comprises five CDs and three DVDs, of which the first three discs draw upon the key tracks from Procol Harum’s illustrious career. Disc four features the band’s legendary concert at the Hollywood Bowl on 21 September 1973 (with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra and the Roger Wagner Chorale), whilst disc five features a previously unreleased concert at the Bournemouth Winter Gardens on 17 March 1976.
