Pow wow is said to derive from the Algonquian words pau wau which means he dreams, and denotes an originally religious significance. Today, pow wows do not retain much religious meaning. Due to misunderstanding all Indian dancing as war dances, and feeling threatened, the white man prohibited them in general until the early 20th century. Over time, tribes joined together in these festivities and with the emergence of a new found Native American pride the old ceremonies were revitalized. This led to inter-tribal pow wows where dances, songs, and other observances were shared. In the many different pow wows held by pow wow clubs throughout the country, dancing remains the highlight and main feature. There are ceremonial as well as social dances and songs. The pow wow itself has been transplanted to the cities, where many of the Indians now live. Each pow wow club, consisting of volunteers, takes the year long responsibility of planning and raising money for this annual event. At these times, differences are put aside and traditions are celebrated, strengthening an entire race of people. This release features famous pow wow singers and drum groups of the Ojibway, the Blackfoot and the Mikmaq tribes.

Jason McNiff, noted London-based songwriter and guitarist, teams up with At The Helm records for a career defining 6th album, Joy and Independence. Coming hot on the heels of last year’s double compilation, Rain Dries Your Eyes, McNiff strips it back to the essence of the songwriter’s craft; 10 brand new songs (and a stripped back re-working of a highlight from Rain Dries Your Eyes ‘Stuck in the Past’), just voice and guitar, live in the studio. Joy and Independence was recorded in sporadic sessions over a 6 month period through 2017-18 at Sean Read (Rockingbirds, Dexy’s) studio in Hackney, East London. It is an album that will have a broad appeal to all fans of acoustic music.
Op verzoek van Harris hebben we vandaag deze elpee van
Les Choc Stars du Zaïre. De plaat is uit 1989 en dat is goed
te horen. Zoals je op de voorkant kunt zien is hij gemaakt
in Brussel, opgenomen in Studio Madeleine aldaar. De
sound is in de loop der jaren tamelijk gemoderniseerd.
Wat meer keys dan voorheen, wel mooie vokalen.
Lekkere harmonica in nummer 8 en 9 van de plaat..

For celebrated entertainer and country music purist Adam Harvey, one musical era stands out head, hat and shoulders above all the rest: Nashville’s seminal 1970s Golden Age. Fulfilling a lifelong dream, Adam jetted off to the bright lights of the immortal Music City to record masterful 10th studio album ‘The Nashville Tapes,’ armed with a brace of new songs couched in the classic country sounds that most capture his imagination. Perhaps more than any of Adam’s stellar solo releases to date, The Nashville Tapes is a sweeping, personal celebration of the sounds that defined a generation: from the legendary outlaws to the first wave of global country megastars. In making The Nashville Tapes, Adam and another longtime mate, producer Nash Chambers, assembled a crack team of Music City’s finest and most sought-after session players to assist in realising the album. “Nash and I have been talking about recording an album together for as long as we’ve known one another,” Adam relates. “He’s well known for the stuff he’s done for Kasey, and he’s a mad, passionate traditional country fan. It felt like a really good fit to go and work there with him. Someone who knows and loves that classic 70s country.” A deeply personal, powerfully reverent release not years but decades in the making, ‘The Nashville Tapes’ is the masterwork of an all-time Australian country music legend.

Too Late To Turn Back Now” is the re-release of the 1997 album “Drivin’ N’ Cryin” (Ichiban Records). Produced by Kosmo Vinyl (once manager of The Clash, The Jam), the work was remastered and reworked for this new edition. This is again designed by Kosmo Vinyl. The album will also be released on vinyl for the first time. Singer and guitarist Kevn Kinney calls this work “the album they always wanted to record because it represents their very own sound”.
