Today’s post concerns a special request by Juan. Orquesta Revé
is one of my favourites as well. It just so happens I recently found
a couple of their records among which this one. Mi Salsa Tiene
Sandunga means so much as my salsa is spicy. Elio Revé Matos
is the father of the Changüi style, his salsa is truly different
from all others. The group is still active today but is being
led by Elio’s son Elito. Saw them in Amsterdam a few years
ago at the Roots Festival, blue skies, outdoor, very nice..

Vandaag een post op speciaal verzoek door Juan. Orquesta Revé
is ook altijd één van mijn favorieten geweest. Toevallig heb ik kort
geleden een aantal van hun platen gevonden waaronder deze.
Mi Salsa Tiene Sandunga wil zoveel zeggen als mijn salsa heeft pit.
Elio Revé Matos was de vader van de Changüi stijl, zijn salsa is echt
anders dan de meeste. De band is ook vandaag nog actief maar nu
onder leiding van Elio’s zoon Elito. Ik zag ze twee jaar geleden op
het Amsterdam Roots festival, lekker buiten, pracht weer, super..

The fifth album by In the Labyrinth, called Samas Antaral, is finally released after a delay of almost 25 years! The songs, of which a vast majority are instrumental, were recorded mainly in the early ’90s, hence making it a parallel project to the first album to be released by In the Labyrinth, namely The Garden of Mysteries. But there are also a few tracks or parts of tracks recorded as early as 1973 and 74, while some bits and pieces have been added more recently. Samas Antaral is based on a saga written by Stefan Ottman and Mikael Gejel in the ’80s and was published as a series in a fantasy magazine called ‘Drömskrinet’. So the music reflects the atmosphere of this story, which runs in a similar vein as Tolkien’s epic, ‘The Lord Of The Rings’. It’s roughly the same line up as before, with Peter Lindahl at the center of the controls but with old friend and ITL member Stefan Ottman playing an important roll this time.

Το “Macbeth”, το πιο πρόσφατο άλμπουμ του σχήματος Daemonia Nymphe (Σπύρος Γιασαφάκης, Εύη Στεργίου), κυκλοφόρησε πέρυσι από την πορτογαλική εταιρεία Equilibrium Music. Περιλαμβάνει, δε, τη μουσική που έγραψε η Δαιμονία Νύμφη για το έργο του Ουίλλιαμ Σαίξπηρ Μάκβεθ (ή και Μάκμπεθ), που ανέβηκε από το Κρατικό Θέατρο Βορείου Ελλάδος (ΚΘΒΕ), στο Θέατρο Εταιρείας Μακεδονικών Σπουδών, την 15/1/2016 σε σκηνοθεσία Αναστασίας Ρεβή (και μετάφραση Δημήτρη Δημητριάδη). Όπως διαβάζουμε από το site του ΚΘΒΕ:

«Μακμπέθ, όνομα αλλόκοτο σαν την ομίχλη της μακρινής Σκωτίας. Στα κάστρα ζουν σκιές, δολοφόνοι και υπνοβάτες. Μάγισσες ξεφυτρώνουν από τα δάση και τις λίμνες. Στο πεδίο των μαχών οι νίκες συγκλονίζουν το μυαλό: το αίμα ζητάει περισσότερο αίμα. Η πάλη ανάμεσα στο καλό και στο κακό γιγαντώνεται και γοητεύει την ψυχή, γιατί “το όμορφο είναι λάθος και το λάθος είναι όμορφο”».

Αν και είναι δύσκολο να γράψεις για μια θεατρική μουσική (όπως και για μια κινηματογραφική φυσικά), ξεκομμένη από εκείνο που διαδραματίζεται στη σκηνή, αξίζει να πούμε λίγα λόγια γι’ αυτό το άλμπουμ, που, οπωσδήποτε, διαθέτει και μιαν αυτοδύναμη (ηχητική) παρουσία.

Έχοντας στο νου μου τις προηγούμενες εγγραφές των Daemonia Nymphe και χωρίς καν να κοιτάξω τι έχω γράψει για ’κείνες, θα πω κάτι που μπορεί να φανεί παράξενο… όμως είναι αυτή η εντύπωσή μου (δε λέω η βεβαιότητά μου). 

Η γενική εικόνα, λοιπόν, που έχω για το δικό τους “Macbeth” δεν είναι εκείνη ενός… σκοτεινού άλμπουμ (όπως θα προδίκαζε, ενδεχομένως, ο μύθος του Σαίξπηρ, αλλά και η προηγούμενη δισκογραφική παρουσία του γκρουπ). Αυτό μου προξενεί μιαν εντύπωση, δεν το κρύβω, και γι’ αυτό το εντοπίζω, εμμένοντας σ’ εκείνο που προανέφερα… πως, χωρίς να έχεις δει την παράσταση και αφουγκραστεί τον τρόπο που «δένει» η μουσική με τα δρώμενα, δυσκολεύεσαι να κατανοήσεις πλήρως οτιδήποτε φθάνει στο στερεοφωνικό σου. Παρά ταύτα…

Οι μουσικές των Daemonia Nymphe είναι, και σ’ αυτό το άλμπουμ, το λιγότερο εντυπωσιακές. Διαθέτουν περισσότερα folk και ακουστικά στοιχεία από κάθε άλλη φορά (έτσι νομίζω), ενώ tracks σαν το “A dagger of the mind” για παράδειγμα έφεραν στη μνήμη μου τους Third Ear Band και τη δική τους απόπειρα για τον κινηματογραφικό Macbeth (1971) του Roman Polanski. Βεβαίως, υπάρχουν και εδώ υποβλητικά θέματα, που διαθέτουν αυτό το βαρύ και ανατριχιαστικό feeling (σαν το “Suspicion”, το “Into the woods” ή το “Malcolm’s victory”), αλλά τελικά εκείνο που κυριαρχεί ή μένει είναι μια περίεργη διάθεση, που δεν μπορώ ακριβώς να την προσεγγίσω. Και δε θέλω να πω και περισσότερα επί τούτου, επειδή θα είναι κάπως σαν… λόγια του αέρα.

Προτιμώ, σε κάθε περίπτωση και σαν κλείσιμο, να μεταφέρω κάποια λόγια της σκηνοθέτιδας, που τα βρήκα στο δίκτυο (efsyn.gr, 24/1/2016) και τα οποία ίσως εξηγούν κάτι σε όσους από εμάς δεν έχουμε δει το θεατρικό:

«Και αυτή η παράσταση είναι άκρως εικαστική. Η μουσική είναι διαρκώς παρούσα, η εξαιρετική μουσική των Δαιμονία Νύμφη, γραμμένη ειδικά για τον Μακμπέθ, το πολυχρηστικό και συμβολικό σκηνικό λειτουργεί σε διάφορα επίπεδα, τα κοστούμια κρατούν ελισαβετιανά στοιχεία, αλλά με μικρές ανατροπές, το video art λειτουργεί συμβολικά ακολουθώντας τους χαρακτήρες και υπάρχει μια διαρκής κίνηση. Ένα πολυθέαμα πάνω στο οποίο οι ηθοποιοί ακροβατούν μιλώντας τη μοναδική ποίηση. Δεν είναι παράσταση του κειμένου ή του λόγου. Δεν είναι αυτό που κανείς φαντάζεται για τον συγγραφέα, το βαρύγδουπο, πομπώδες κείμενο με τα μεγάλα νοήματα και το ειδικό βάρος του λόγου. H φράση που προανέφερα, “το όμορφο είναι λάθος και το λάθος είναι όμορφο”, αντιπροσωπεύει όλη τη σκηνοθετική προσέγγιση».

Αξίζει, τέλος, να πούμε πως εκτός από τη βασική δυάδα των Daemonia Nymphe (Γιασαφάκης, Στεργίου) στην ηχογράφηση του Macbeth, παίρνουν μέρος και άλλοι μουσικοί και περφόρμερ (οκτώ στον αριθμό), για τους οποίους δεν διευκρινίζεται πού ακριβώς συμβάλλουν. Σε κάθε περίπτωση, πάντως, πρόκειται για ένα εντυπωσιακό άλμπουμ.
