The first CD of this 6-CD set is devoted to the current Music Director of the Berlin Philharmonic, Sir Simon Rattle, and includes extracts from popular works like Orff's Carmina Burana and The Planets by Holst as well as more substantial works like Mahler's Fifth Symphony and Shostakovich's First Symphony. It also showcases extracts from Rattle's highly acclaimed superb new recording of Tchaikovsky's famous ballet The Nutcracker.CD 2 opens with examples of former Music Director Claudio Abbado's recordings with this great orchestra, including Mozart's Flute Concert No.2 with brilliant soloist Emmanuel Pahud. Following is a group of items conducted by Herbert von Karajan, including Mozart's Concerto for Flute & Harp and Dvorˇák's `New World' Symphony. Continuing with Karajan, the third CD presents a concert of popular works ranging from Mozart's `Eine kleine Nachtmusik' to the spectacular Prelude to Act III of Wagner's Lohengrin. CD 4 begins with several well-known works such as the first movement of Mendelssohn's lively `Italian' Symphony and `Morning' from Grieg's Peer Gynt Suite, all under the batons of guest conductors like Klaus Tennstedt, Jeffrey Tate and Lorin Maazel. These are followed by some spectacular extracts from operas and choral works including the powerful opening scene of Verdi's Otello. CD 5 presents some of the world's greatest instrumental soloists in a range of famous concertos. Violinists Nigel Kennedy and David Oistrakh are heard in Bach and Mozart respectively. Anne-Sophie Mutter plays the beautiful `Méditation' from Massenet's Thaïs and Yehudi Menuhin is heard in Brahms. The great cellist Mstislav Rostropovich gives us a taste of Richard Strauss's Don Quixote and the outstanding Norwegian pianist Leif Ove Andsnes performs works by Grieg and Rachmaninov.
The set ends with a collection of recordings by some of the legendary conductors of an earlier time, starting with the first movement of Beethoven's Fifth Symphony made in 1913 by Arthur Nikisch. There are several items by the much-loved Rudolf Kempe, a rarity by the enigmatic Sergiu Celibidache, who made only a handful of commercial recordings, and several of the acclaimed recordings by Wilhelm Furtwängler, who held the post of Music Director twice and was the predecessor of Herbert von Karajan.

The original 10-song album from 1985 has been remastered from the original tapes and is expanded to included nine bonus tracks including demos, new mixes and live performances.Faith No More's debut LP We Care a Lot has been out of print for more than 20 years. It's where the San Francisco band's story really started, the gateway to later success with albums such as The Real Thing, Angel Dust and Album of the Year. When the record arrived in in the dimming days of 1985 the music world was thirsty for something new. Thrash metal had taken the epic nature of progressive rock, the heaviness of its mother genre and the energy of punk and delivered a potent alloy that remains unstoppable and unstoppable. It was a genre that had found its greatest purchase in New York and in the San Francisco Bay Area, the very place that Faith No More called home. That San Francisco no longer exists. Still, there are phantoms from the era that lurk virtually everywhere. It's in the genetic makeup of the early Metallica albums, the legacy of Primus and others who sneaked out from the underground and into the spotlight by the end of the Reagan decade. Like its peers Faith No More was prone to restlessness, strange left turns, associative leaps. Self-financed and recorded on a former chicken ranch north of the city We Care a Lot's only frills came from the music itself. The band's moniker and its logo suggested something quasi-religious or quasi anti-religious. You couldn't really be sure. What point would there be to the art if it had not ambiguity? The record has been reissued now with a range of bonus tracks, including demos and new mixes.
Some of the criticisms that have been brought against We Care a Lot through the ages remain pertinent. Those associative leaps and stylistic bounds hadn't quite congealed; there's frequently a chasm between ambition and ability; vocalist Chuck Mosley's voice is an acquired taste. The excitement of the record comes as much from its successes as from those places where it teeters on the precipice of good and bad art. Predicting where it will soar and where it will shatter becomes impossible after a time. The listener's only choice is to sit back and take the ride and enjoy it for what it is. The titular track remains a strong point, a catalog of the things that were hip to care about in 1985 from natural disasters to famine and addiction. The lyrics work because the band isn't being entirely ironic about the matter. It's not that they don't care; it's that others only care for 15 minutes. Musically, the tune gets its gusto from the rhythm section of drummer Mike "Puffy" Bordin and bassist Billy Gould whose lines teem with both playfulness and danger.
To say that the band lacked pop ambition in those early days would be a lie. There are hooks and grooves that Madonna would have been happy to bring to either the radio or the dance floor. Witness the goth vibe of "The Jungle", the layers of darkness wrapped around the vocals and the leaden wallop wielded by Bordin and Gould while keyboardist Roddy Bottum channels both the Doors and Blue Orchids. Meanwhile, "Mark Bowen" feels like a half-realized anthem that begs for a stronger arrangement and a vocal performance that allows the listener to find nuance. The same might be said for "Why Do You Bother?" which comes off more like a rowdy sing-a-long on the football bus after a particularly close victory. Just when you think our lads have lost it, though, they whip out "Greed", a harbinger of things to come: the song is heavy without being dumb, arty without being pretentious, and Mosley acquits himself nicely with a performance that perfectly matches the music's whomp and wow. "Pills For Breakfast" has all the muscle of latter-day FNM while "As the Worm Turns" seems to be missing the scintilla of attitude that would carry it to the stratosphere. If "Arabian Disco" was an attempt to cross Talking Heads with the Cure it works on that basis alone.
The three 2016 remixes add new dimension to "We Care a Lot", "As the Worm Turns" and "Pills For Breakfast". Demo versions of "Greed" and "Mark Bowen" are almost preferable to the final versions while two 1986 live cuts are nice but perhaps unnecessary artifacts. The final verdict, then? The original We Care a Lot could have been trimmed down to a cohesive and earth-scorching EP. Having it back in circulation gives obsessives a chance to embrace it with new fervor (and new packaging). The record hasn't aged badly it's just not as good as what would come.Tracklist :

Reverieme is a project that has taken on various formations since it was founded in 2005. Currently an intimate solo project, Reverieme is essentially the alter ego of school teacher Louise Connell. Boasting an unique way with words and a distinctive understated presence, her latest album Straw Woman is the end result of a successful Pledge campaign in the wake of her 2015 acoustic EP Or Else The Light.Unsurprisingly for an artist who has toured with Emmy The Great and Gotye, Reverieme's lastest release is an intelligent slice of quirky folk that has a compelling pop sensibility. A storyteller to the core, the real appeal in Straw Woman lies in the curious approach to lyrical honesty. Presented as a Jekyll & Hyde character in the album's artwork, the album itself showcases an artist who is fighting against the mainstream need for classification. Although it is fully cohesive and comprehensive, Straw Woman is an album that fights against itself during it's journey.
Although initially it is the delicate cuts that shine the brightest, from the enchanting Fairy Stories to the sparkly Venues, it is actually the rockier cuts that make the longest lasting impression. While the Nick Drake drive of Everyone Else makes a big impact, it is the rocky Nocturnal Babe that steals the show.
With an air of Tanya Donnelly meets Deana Carter, there is a country twang to the collection that could see Reverieme shine on an array of sync placements, which could in the long-term take this anti-mainstream artist into the hearts and homes of the mainstream music fan.

Jettisoning not only the funk-metal rhythms of their earlier work but also long-time guitar hero and wacky eyewear model James B Martin, King For A Day… Fool For A Lifetime for the most part pursued a more back-to-basics garage sound that slotted in with the post-grunge environment of 1995. The album holds up well today, with Mike Patton achieving new heights of visceral howling on the likes of Cuckoo For Caca, but among the bonus tracks there's little to get excited about other than the tragic-comedy Bee Gees cover – I Started A Joke.In 1989, Faith No More hit the big time with "Epic," an intense rap/sung track off the band's sophomore album The Real Thing. The song reached #9 on the Billboard charts and stayed in the Top 40 for a total of 13 weeks. It's video, with indelible images of an exploding piano and a flopping fish out of water, was plastered all over MTV. The band followed The Real Thing with 1992's Angel Dust, an album that saw Faith No More branching out in weird and diverse directions, something that must have surprised fans who only knew the band from its big single. But, for all the experimentation and genre mash-up of Angel Dust, Faith No More did not truly come into its own until 1995's King for a Day…Fool for a Lifetime.
Reissued here as a double CD set, King for a Day proves itself as perhaps Faith No More's defining release. Original guitarist Jim Martin had left the band after the Angel Dust tour, and King for a Day's opening lyric finds singer Mike Patton questioning, "What if there is no more fun to have?" That song, "Get Out," is all skittering electric guitar and scream fit, with a distinct melodic line undercutting the vocal violence, all of which foreshadows the rest of the album to come.King for a Day may be the perfect Faith No More album for its expert mishmash of styles, genre, and emotional affect. "Richochet" is as pure a pop song as Faith No More has written. "Evidence" is cocktail lounge music, with Patton showing he can croon with the best of them. "The Gentle Art of Making Enemies" is a straight ahead rock and roll blitz, with Patton hilariously chirping, "Happy Birthday…fucker." "Star A.D." is horn-filled jazz. And that's just the first five songs!"Cuckoo for Caca" is three-and-a-half minutes of the most ingenious screaming ever put to record, followed curiously by the lullaby "Caralho Voador." Heck, "Digging the Grave," perhaps the best hard rock song in Faith No More's cannon, doesn't even come until track nine.
The second disc of the reissue adds B-sides, rarities, and live cuts, including three tracks that first appeared on the bonus disc to Who Cares A Lot? The Greatest Hits. Few of these are absolutely essential, but all are nice to have here in one place, alongside the album proper. Most interesting are "Absolute Zero," which initially appeared as a B-side to "Digging the Grave," the band's silly yet seemingly un-ironic take on Bee Gees' "I Started a Joke," and an ultra-croony version of Al Martino's "Spanish Eyes." Taken as a whole, King for a Day is a beautifully schizophrenic masterpiece, sequenced in the most illogical yet perfect way ever. It transforms itself from music to artwork while you listen.
