Για τους Distortion Tamers και για τον τραγουδοποιό Kosta A.-Monk (Κωστής Αναγνωστόπουλος) έχουμε γράψει κι άλλες φορές στο παρελθόν. Τώρα θα το ξανακάνουμε με αφορμή το LP Jasmines & Blades(2018), που τυπώνεται από την Ikaros Recordsσε τριακόσια αντίτυπα. Distortion Tamersσ’ αυτό το άλμπουμ είναι ο Kosta A.-Monk κιθάρες, τραγούδι, ο NickKetzμπάσο (από RockinBones κ.ά.) και ο Silver ντραμς (που δεν είναι άλλος από τον Χριστόφορο Τριανταφυλλόπουλο, πριν στους Purple Overdose, No Mans Land κ.ά.). Στο άλμπουμ βοηθάει επίσης ο Alex K. (The Last Drive κ.ά.) σε ακουστική κιθάρα (σ’ ένα τραγούδι) και σε φωνητικά (σε πέντε). Το “Jasmines & Blades” περιλαμβάνει οκτώ tracks, έξι πρωτότυπα και δύο versions (μία στο “People who died” της Jim Carroll Band και μία στο “40 miles of bad road” των Dead Moon).

Τα βασικά στοιχεία τού rock των Distortion Tamers στρέφονται γύρω από την αμερικανική… μυθολογική εκδοχή του (του rock εννοώ). Και τούτο συμβαίνει και ως προς τον ήχο και σε σχέση με τους στίχους, που είναι εκείνοι του… αλήτικου (με τη σωστή έννοια) rock – ενός rock στηριγμένου στις σκληρές κιθάρες και στα… καταραμένα λόγια. Και ναι, είναι (και) οι στίχοι εκείνοι που κάνουν στο “Jasmines & Blades” τη διαφορά, στίχοι που σχετίζονται με τους ποικίλους καθημερινούς απόβλητους, όπως και με τη δύναμη που εμπεριέχει η έννοια του δρόμου, όταν βρίσκεσαι πάνω σε ρόδες, άλλοτε δε και με τη χαρά και τη διασκέδαση κ.λπ.… ποικίλα θέματα, τέλος πάντων, εντός των οποίων χωρά και ο έρωτας φυσικά, αλλά και μια ποιητική μεταφυσική, πάντα συμβατή με τη σχετική ροκ μυθολογία. Όλα αυτά γίνονται ένα με τις μουσικές και κάπως έτσι προκύπτουν τραγούδια-δυναμίτες, σαν... την “Rock& roll city” (που είναι η Θεσσαλονίκη) στη δεύτερη πλευρά ή σαν το “The calling of the jackal” στην πρώτη.
Οι μουσικές των Distortion Tamers (του Αναγνωστόπουλου) έχουν και αυτές, φυσικά, τα «σωστά» χαρακτηριστικά, που είναι γενικώς σκληρά, με την απλότητα και την αμεσότητα στα παιξίματα να σε κερδίζουν (ως ακροατή) εύκολα. Φυσικά, οι δύο διασκευές (από Jim Carrollκαι Dead Moonξαναλέω) δείχνουν προς τα πού κυλάει το πράγμα, αν κι εγώ, με την τραγουδοποιία του Kosta A.-Monk, έφερα στη μνήμη μου, τηρουμένων όσων αναλογιών θέλετε, έναν… σκοτεινό καλλιτέχνη από το παρελθόν, τον Simon Stokes(είτε με τους Nighthawksείτε με τους Black Whip Thrill).
Ωραίο άλμπουμ, για… παλιούς, καλούς rockers!

After writing the bulk of his previous material, he put out word in Nashville that he was open to songs from other sources, and the results were astonishing. A-list writers – including Chris Stapleton, Radney Foster and Brothers Osborne guitarist John Osborne – came to the table with songs that suited Johnson’s life and disposition. Music fans who are just now coming to the table will get a quick understanding of Johnson, from the rowdy troublemaker in the swampy “Doubt Me Now” to the devoted family man in the title track to the self-penned ex-bull rider in “Dear Rodeo” to the devoted Christian in “His Name Is Jesus.

“Johnson wears his musical influences on his sleeve – referencing George Strait in “When Cowboys Were King, ” Alan Jackson and Tim McGraw in “Y’all People” and Johnny Cash, Jackson Browne and Bruce Springsteen in “Monday Morning Merle.” Two choice covers further meld his personality with his musical taste. “Husbands and Wives, ” a song that recognizes the day-to-day difficulties of holding a marriage together, is Johnson’s way of tipping a hat to one of country’s ultimate songwriters, the late Roger Miller. And “Long Haired Country Boy” has The Cody Johnson Band playing up his rebel side with a song established by The Charlie Daniels Band (yes, that’s the CJB covering the CDB). But Johnson’s version is filtered through the grizzly tone of Lynyrd Skynyrd, Hank Williams Jr. And Brantley Gilbert.

Once More into the Bleach is a remix album released in December 1988 by the band Blondie and Debbie Harry. The 13-track compilation contains remixes of Blondie songs and material from Debbie Harry’s solo career.

The title of the album is a pun on a line from Henry V, a history play by William Shakespeare, “once more unto the breach”, with a nod to hair bleach.

The album was issued as a double vinyl, double cassette album, and on CD. On the US edition of the album track five “Rapture” (Bonus Beats) is replaced with the original version of “Atomic” from the album Eat to the Beat.

Once More into the Bleach spun off two single releases: “Denis”, a remix by Dancin’ Danny D which is the first official Blondie remix single (also known as “Denis ’88”) and “Call Me”, a remix by Ben Liebrand. The singles reached #50 and #61 in the UK respectively. The Shep Pettibone remix of “Heart of Glass” had a limited release as a single in several territories.

Founded 40-odd years ago by sole permanent member Chris Desjardins (known as Chris D.), the Flesh Eaters came from the same late-’70s L.A. scene that yielded bands including X, the Blasters and Los Lobos—all of whom lent members to the Flesh Eaters’ touchstone 1981 album A Minute to Pray, a Second to Die. As luck would have it, that’s the roster that reconvened for the first time since then to back Desjardins on I Used to Be Pretty, the Flesh Eaters’ first new album in 15 years. Dave Alvin and Bill Bateman of the Blasters; John Doe and DJ Bonebrake of X; and Steve Berlin from Los Lobos form a powerful combo, surging along with Chris D. in what amounts to a master class in taut punk-rockology, with an antagonistic streak.

Chris D. makes the most of his all-star lineup, revisiting songs from throughout the Flesh Eaters catalog and laying down what in most cases are definitive new versions. “Miss Muerte” dresses up the lo-fi guitar churning of the 2004 original with a marimba introduction that gives way to a shattering guitar riff played in tandem with saxophone raunch. The vocals that sound far more apocalyptic, thanks to dire backing parts from Julie Christensen, Desjardins’ ex-wife and partner in the band Divine Horsemen. “House Amid the Thickets” takes on an unsettlingly sultry vibe by replacing the trash-can drums and smoothing out the herky-jerky riff of the 1999 version. “The Youngest Profession” becomes more terrifying as a deliberate, reverb-y snare-drum pattern anchors huge serrated guitar that ebbs and flows around moaning sax and Chris D. intoning the lyrics like a madman ranting on a street corner in the dead of night. “My Life to Live” is the centerpiece here, a blast of defiance from 1981 that doesn’t need much reconfiguring. Mostly, this incarnation of the band simply tightens up the searing guitar riff and plays with the benefit, and spark, of decades of experience.

Though the versions of the songs on I Used to Be Pretty sound fantastic, it can be tricky messing around with the alchemy of previously recorded music. There was a certain charm to the ramshackle, handmade feel of these tunes as they appeared on the original albums. That said, these gussied-up, more professional arrangements show Chris D.’s songs in the best possible light. Their power, their attitude and their sheer trashy abandon have never been more evident, which means Desjardins in a way is finally getting his due.

It was in october 2015 that we already had Keba Na Ye, an album
from 1982 by his hand. Today a follow up on that one, an album we
don’t find on Discogs or Google. We also can’t seem to find a year
of release on this record. Next to Marcus Mvouka we find Emmanuel
Bouetoumoussa who plays guitar, both solo and rhythmic, bass, drums
and percussions and tumbas. Marcus Mvouka does vocals including
backing and also first and second trumpet. Quite an achievement for
two guys. Get it and spread it if you can, enjoy listening..

Het was in oktober 2015 dat we reeds één van zijn platen hadden,

Vandaag dus de lang verwachte opvolger. Over dit album kon ik niets
vinden op Discogs en ook niet op Google. Tevens is geen jaar van uitgave
bekend. Naast Marcus Mvouka vinden we Emmanuel Bouetoumoussa op
solo, ritme en bas gitaar, en ook op drums, percussie en tumbas. Marcus
Mvouka zingt, ook de achtergrond vokalen en speelt eerste en tweede
trompet. Een tamelijk knap staaltje voor twee man. Luister en
geef hem weer door als je kunt..

One of the strongest voices in the folk revival and the civil rights movement, Odetta was born on New Year’s Eve 1930 in Birmingham, AL. By the time she was six years old, she had moved with her younger sister and mother to Los Angeles. She showed a keen interest in music from the time she was a child, and when she was about ten years old, somewhere between church and school, her singing voice was discovered. Odetta’s mother began saving money to pay for voice lessons for her, but was advised to wait until her daughter was 13 years old and well into puberty. Thanks to her mother, Odetta began voice lessons when she was 13. She received a classical training, which was interrupted when her mother could no longer afford to pay for the lessons. The puppeteer Harry Burnette interceded and paid for Odetta to continue her voice training.
