ο ΧΡΗΣΤΟΣ ΛΕΟΝΤΗΣ 54 χρόνια μετά την πρώτη εμφάνισή του στη δισκογραφία εξακολουθεί να γράφει ωραία τραγούδια
Πρέπει να έχω όλους τους δίσκους του Χρήστου Λεοντή μέχρι και τις «Συναυλίες ’81». Ο τελευταίος που αγόρασα ήταν σίγουρα το άλμπουμ «Μαντζουράνα στο Κατώφλι» (1980) – κάτι που πρέπει να συνέβη πριν καμμιά 15αριά χρόνια. Θέλω να πω πως από τις αρχές των 00s δεν έχω ξανακούσει Λεοντή, όπως δεν έχω ακούσει και οτιδήποτε δικό του που τυπώθηκε μετά το 1981.

Μ’ αρέσουν οι μελωδίες του Χρήστου Λεοντή και κυρίως μ’ αρέσει αυτό το λυρικό-φολκλορικό στοιχείο που διαθέτει (και στους ρυθμούς του), και βεβαίως ο τρόπος που το συνταιριάζει με τα πιο λαϊκά ακούσματα (στα ζεϊμπέκικά του ή τα χασάπικα). Εν ολίγοις, η τραγουδοποιία του Λεοντή είναι γενικώς διακριτή κι ας έχεις ν’ ακούσεις τραγούδια του χρόνια. Αρκεί βεβαίως να ’χεις ακούσει, τουλάχιστον, το «Αχ… Έρωτα» (1974).
Στο πιο πρόσφατο CD του, που έχει τίτλο «Φλόγα που Καίει» [Μετρονόμος, 2017] ο Χρήστος Λεοντής συνεργάζεται με τον στιχουργό Δημήτρη Λέντζο – με τον οποίον είχαν κάνει και το άλμπουμ «Έρωτας Αρχάγγελος» το 2007. Ο Λέντζος είναι ένας από τους σημερινούς στυλοβάτες τού «έντεχνου» και όπως είχαμε γράψει λίγο παλαιότερα σε σχέση με τη στιχουργική του: «Στο στίχο του Λέντζου διακρίνεται κατ’ αρχάς μια… μεγαλοπρεπής ονοματολογία που παραπέμπει στον Νίκο Γκάτσο, αλλά οι “ομοιότητες” σταματούν εκεί. Περαιτέρω, υπάρχουν εμφανείς αναφορές στη στιχουργία του Μάνου Ελευθερίου, κυρίως όσον αφορά στον τρόπο μέσω του οποίου επικοινωνεί το λαϊκό με τη σκέψη (κάτι όχι εύκολο). Υπάρχει, μ’ άλλα λόγια, ένα διανοητικό παιγνίδι στα στιχάκια και τις στροφές, που καταλήγει κάπου – σ’ ένα συμπέρασμα, σ’ ένα δίδαγμα, όπως θα λέγαμε παλιά. Ένα δίδαγμα, βεβαίως, που δεν είναι αμέσως και εξ ολοκλήρου προφανές, αλλά κρυμμένο πίσω από προσωπικές διαδρομές, που απαιτούν τη συμμετοχή του ακροατή προκειμένου να αποκρυπτογραφηθούν. Υπ’ αυτήν την έννοια οι στίχοι του Λέντζου ξεχωρίζουν όσο ελάχιστοι άλλοι στο σύγχρονο έντεχνο τραγούδι… και γιατί αποτελούν συνέχεια μιας σημαντικής παράδοσης».
Ο Λεοντής έχει λοιπόν έναν πολύ συγκεκριμένο στίχο για να μελοποιήσει και σε κάποιες περιπτώσεις κατορθώνει να ξεπεράσει το αναμενόμενο. Βεβαίως, αυτές οι περιπτώσεις είναι λίγες – χωρίς τούτο να σημαίνει πως στις υπόλοιπες το αποτέλεσμα μοιάζει λιγότερο αντιπροσωπευτικό για τον συνθέτη. Απλώς, κάποια κομμάτια ξεχωρίζουν (πολύ) δείχνοντας πως ο 77χρονος Λεοντής έχει ακόμη τη δύναμη να εκπλήσσει… και αυτό δεν είναι μικρό πράγμα.
Στην πρώτη γραμμή θα κατέτασσα το εισαγωγικό κομμάτι «Παράξενη νοσταλγία» με τον Θοδωρή Βουτσικάκη, με τη θαυμάσια μελωδία και την επεξεργασμένη ενορχήστρωση (ο Λεοντής είναι νομίζω από τους ελάχιστους έλληνες συνθέτες που ξέρει να εκμεταλλεύεται ένα όργανο όπως η φυσαρμόνικα π.χ.) και κυρίως το «Κόκκινη κραυγή» (ξανά με τον Βουτσικάκη), ένα έξοχο τραγούδι και κάπως ροκ, χωρίς όμως ροκ όργανα. Το τραγούδι αυτό θα το ζήλευαν πολλοί 30χρονοι, αλλά το έγραψε ένας σχεδόν 80χρόνος… Υπάρχουν κι άλλα ωραία κομμάτια στο «Φλόγα που Καίει», όπως το «Κάτασπρο γιασεμί» (θυμίζει τα τραγούδια του Λεοντή, που έλεγε η Τσανακλίδου στα seventies) και η «Σιταρήθρα» αμφότερα με την Ιωάννα Φόρτη.
Να πούμε, τέλος, πως στο άλμπουμ τραγούδια ερμηνεύει και ο Αλέξανδρος Τσιωνάς (τα πιο λαϊκά), ενώ η ενορχήστρωση και η διεύθυνση όλων ανήκει φυσικά στον Χρήστο Λεοντή.
Ένας απλός, σεμνός δίσκος, από έναν συνθέτη που ξεκίνησε να ηχογραφεί πριν 54 χρόνια (1963) και συνεχίζει ακόμη!

Ingrid Michaelson's seventh studio album, 2016's It Doesn't Have to Make Sense, finds the singer/songwriter delving into a set of sonically robust, emotionally transfiguring anthems recorded in the wake of her mother's death and the breakup of her marriage. The album follows her similarly lush 2014 effort, Lights Out, and as with that record, this one features production from a handful of longtime collaborators including bandmate bassist Chris Kuffner, Katie Herzig, Dan Romer, and others. Notably, It Doesn't Have to Make Sense was recorded after a particularly difficult period for Michaelson that found her dealing with her grief over her mother's passing, as well as her own health issues, and ultimately, the end of her marriage to singer/songwriter Greg Laswell in 2015. However, while all of these issues play into the themes of It Doesn't Have to Make Sense, it would be reductive to call this a breakup album. Primarily, Michaelson celebrates the ups and downs of life with a combination of poignancy, remembrance, and empowerment. Some cuts, like the yearning, orchestral-tinged "Drink You Gone," play with notions of romantic disappointment and resentment without getting too specific. Others, like the crisply attenuated, electronic-tinged "Hell No," juxtapose uncomfortably specific details like "I saw her wearing your sweater/Nice glasses, fake red hair/Just like me," against a buoyant melody, sparkling instrumentation, and an ecstatic chorus. Certainly, "I Remember Her" is a poetic rumination on death and how our feelings for loved ones become inextricably entwined with our sense memory of objects, smells, and holidays. Michaelson sings,"There's a smell that heat makes, it reminds me of Christmas and birthdays in December/I remember her." Elsewhere, Michaelson offers up several catchy sides in "Miss America" and the gleeful "Celebrate," that, as with most of It Doesn't Have to Make Sense, showcase her longstanding knack for transforming her personal feelings and experiences into universally relatable anthems.

Toronto-based dubstep/house act Zeds Dead – named after a line from Quentin Tarantino's 1994 film Pulp Fiction – are a production duo consisting of DC (Dylan Mamid) and Hooks (Zachary Rapp-Rovan). The two first formed the hip-hop-oriented Mass Productions in 2004 and released an independent album, Fresh Beetz, three years later. They switched to Zeds Dead in 2009, embracing house and the direct, physical side of dubstep. Their debut song, the All Seeing I-sampling "Journey of a Lifetime," arrived in 2009. It would be the first of many downloadable releases made available for free. The track was quickly followed by more free downloads, as well as a remix of Barletta's "Panther." Throughout 2010 and 2011, they were increasingly active. They released material on a number of labels, including Kissy Sell Out's San City High, Steve Aoki's Dim Mak, and Diplo's Mad Decent; remixed tracks by Blue Foundation and the Electric; and they also toured extensively throughout the U.S. Their first release of 2012 was Adrenaline, an EP issued on Inspected that balanced blitzing dubstep tracks with lower-key breakbeat workouts. The Living Dead (Ultra) arrived months later, before a trio of Mad Decent EPs followed each subsequent year: Victor (2012), Hot Sauce (2013), and Somewhere Else (2014). The latter featured appearances by Twin Shadow and Perry Farrell and entered the Billboard 200. The duo's debut LP arrived in late 2016. Released on their own Deadbeats label, Northern Lights included collaborations with Diplo, Pusha T, Weezer's Rivers Cuomo, Jadakiss, Styles P, and more.
