Only the second compilation in his long career — third, if Smile, the 2003 collection of his soundtrack appearances, is counted — Greatest Hits runs 15 songs, the same length as 2001’s Anthology, Vol. 1: Cowboy Man. Seven of those songs are shared — mainly early singles from his first two albums (“Cowboy Man,” “God Will,” “Why I Don’t Know,” “Give Back My Heart,” “I Loved You Yesterday,” “If I Had a Boat,” “If I Were the Man You Wanted”) — and the rest of the compilation adds his other country charting singles, starting with 1986’s “Farther Down the Line,” running through 1988’s “She’s No Lady,” and adding “I Married Her Because She Looks Like You,” “Stand by Your Man,” “Nobody Knows Me,” “Don’t Touch My Hat,” and “Private Conversation.” Given that Lovett is as much an album artist as a hitmaker, there are some inevitable omissions here — “You’ve Been So Good Up to Now,” a mainstream Top 40 hit in 1992, is absent, as are the Texas tourism anthem “That’s Right (You’re Not from Texas)” and the Toy Story hit “You’ve Got a Friend in Me,” not to mention deep cuts like “L.A. County,” “Here I Am,” and “Church,” among many others — but as a basic portrait of Lovett’s best-known material, this is a solid set.

Singer-songwriter Matisyahu has been on a journey inward for more than a decade. The journey has been private and public. Now, nearly thirteen years after the release of his first studio record, Matisyahu and his band have done something unmatched in his past repertoire; they have crafted that journey into a musically thematic eight-song-movement. The band features longtime guitarist Aaron Dugan, Dub Trio's bassist and drummer Stu Brooks and Joe Tomino, and keyboard virtuoso BigYuki – and the journey starts with them. The band improvised for hours in the studio with Matisyahu watching on as an admirer without singing a single lyric. Out of the improvisations grew melodic themes, rhythmic peaks and valleys, blissful and proto-song guitar passages, deep dub meditations and ultimately an inspired instrumental record unto itself. Only once the band had crafted this musical narrative, did Matisyahu begin to work on a lyrical narrative of his own – a lyrical narrative that is simultaneously informed and integrated with the music yet driven by Matisyahu's own personal journey. The result is Undercurrent, Matisyahu's sixth studio album. There are no post-production bells and whistles, excessive overdub distractions, or litany of special guests on Undercurrent.

The Kooks are gearing up to celebrate the fact that they've been a band for more than 10 years, announcing today that they will be releasing a collection of their greatest hits this May. Titled The Best of… So Far, it's clear that this compilation is meant more as mile-marker than destination, an idea backed up by singer Luke Pritchard, who stated in a press release, "It's been the greatest pleasure to work, travel, fight, hate and love the best and most talented people I've met in my life. It's the greatest job in the world and we don't intend to stop any time soon."
To drive the point home, the band are including two new songs alongside career staples like "Naïve" and "Shine On." The first of those, "Be Who You Are," is available now, and makes for a welcome addition to The Kooks' catalog. The British indie popsters blast full speed ahead through the tune in a raucous burst of sun-drenched fun, anchored by that singalong "Ba Da Da Da" chorus, and the abrupt change of pace about halfway into the song keeps the listener on their toes, sending things into a spacier, dreamier territory.

For one week J. Bannon resided in the C-Scape Dune Shack (formerly known as the Cohen Shack) within the Peaked Hill Bars National Register Historical District in Provincetown, Massachusetts. This primitive environment inspired an outpouring of abstract mixed media work, photography, and music. The visual material from the experience is presented as "Dunedevil" by J. Bannon. Available as a nearly 300 page "smyth sewn" art book and Kindle edition, with a forward by acclaimed artist Thomas Hooper.
Each day, the skeleton of a song was recorded using a portable recording device powered by a Goal Zero solar power setup. The sounds were captured through an Apogee Duet using a Critter & Guitari mini piano, Martin Jr. guitar, assorted effects pedals, and a Shure SM7B microphone. Mike Mckenzie graciously played additional guitar on "Be Still My Heart" at a later date. All songs were then refined and mixed during the winter of 2016, and mastered by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege. These recordings are presented as "Dunedevil", an experimental album from Wear Your Wounds. Available on vinyl and digital formats.
The release is meant to be an experimental musical companion piece to the J. Bannon "Dunedevil" art book. Though they can be enjoyed separately, it is suggested that you view the book and listen to the music at the same time. Please note that the book is available individually and is not included in the purchase of this release.
